I am planning on towing my 25ft trailer up to the snow this weekend with the family and have a question about freezing. In the snow if your fresh water freezes in the trailer what do you do??? Has this ever happend to any of you??? Prevention??? Thanks...(I give REP points)
Living in the north, Yukon, Canada ( next to Alaska ) I think i can give you some advice...
If there is any chance of getting below 0 deg C ( 32 deg F ) I would winterize the trailer. That means blowing compressed air through ALL WATER PIPES and emptying the hot water tank or filling the water pipes with potable anti-freeze.
If you do not winterize the trailer and you freeze the pipes, they could bust open or you run the risk of breaking the water pressure pump or the hot water tank.
It is a little pain the b## to winterize a trailer but is a major pain the a## to fix a trailer while camping !!!
I see you are in Ca,so I'm assuming you're heading up to Big Bear or somewhere close to there? You don't need to winterize for just a weekend, going to the Yukon, yes, but not SoCal.Alot of guys will leave a faucet on a drip to prevent freezing.Make sure you fire up the hot water heater. Are you dry camping or full hookup?I have camped in the Eastern Sierra many times in the snow, down to 8 degrees at night, and never freezed the water, the only problem was draining the battery because the heater was on all night.Hope this helps, have fun
Keep your heater on and keep your hot water heater on and you should be ok down to 25 degrees or so! I have done it several times!! Anything below 20 ??????????????????
Great info!!!! Thanks everyone. Scottman70 the forum wont let me give u any more reps but just wanted to say thanks!!!! I will be leaving soon and I will keep the hot water heater on and use the drip system if it gets too cold at night
Judging by your trailer pic in your gallery, it looks like you are winterized! Enjoy your trip BRO!
.
nice rig...
if you are hooked up to shore power take a couple of halogen worklights and put them about 8" under the fresh water tank..preferrably where the outlet goes up to the trailer...i've done this and had fresh water in single digit temps..
