Unsuccessful in SIPHON attempt

Ok,

I have a siphon pump and tried to siphon gas from the X to the wife's van. The siphon hose went down ~2' then seemed to hit a stop. I couldn't get the hose to go down the the gas level.

The reason I'm trying to do this is because Giant Eagle give fuel perks. I can get a free fill-up (up to 30 gallons). I want to fill the X when its low and give some extra gas to the wife's van.

Any tricks in getting the hose in far enough?

Neil

The OBDII cas have some sort of flap or something like that that will not allow a car to be siphoned. I was told this by a former GM, now BMW tech. Most cars got these in the late 90's apparently. He said he has tried like crazy to get passed em when he had to do fuel pumps on cars with full tanks of fuel but was never able to get around it.

I didn't have any problems getting gas out of my 99 Caddy when the gas station filled me up with sludge/water.

While pushing on the hose, rotate it at the same time.

I recently had the tank and filler neck out of my '01 SD and there was nothing in there to stop a hose from going all the way in.

You could be hitting a lip of some type as you enter the tank.

I Just siphoned 5gal. out of my X about a week ago to put in the riding mower. As kwewat says, rotate hose while pushing. I just didn't feel like riding to the store and I had a full tank in the X.

Any idea what size hose and how long it needs to be? I did try to rotate but it seemed to be hitting a stop.

When we get the free fuel perks and get free gas. We use gas cans. We fill one car up and then put the rest of the 30 gal in four 5 gal cans.

Does anyone know how long the hose should be?

I want to be able to get gas to run my generator when the power goes out again, or when on vacation.

My brother and I made an extremely unsuccessful attempt at siphoning out of his '05 F250 Diesel. Had the same issue as the OP, and the mechanic said that it was made that way to prevent the gas from being siphoned.

We tried rotating, shoving, tickling, pleading, bribing, and shouting... but the dang hose never went in.

There is usually a check ball on the inlet of the fuel tank that will not allow you to siphon it. No way to bypass it unless you are going to pull the whole inlet hose off.

I never saw any check ball in any fuel filler neck that I've ever seen, and that's mid 80's Fords and earlier, and even my 2001 Superduty gasser.

There's a FLAP in the filler neck, but a hose can easily go past that.

I recently had the tank and filler neck out of my SD, and the only thing stopping a hose from getting in there was the angle of the neck, and the flange where the filler hose meets the tank. There's a ridge inside, so it's kinda hard to get the hose past it.

I've put 3/8", and even stuff that looks like garden hose into almost every gas tank I've ever owned, at one point or another.

Now, there HAVE been these coil spring setups inserted in some filler necks, but they were usually aftermarket.

Not sure about other manufacturers like Chevy/Dodge/etc, but all my Fords never had anything stopping it from being siphoned. Just a ridge somewhere, that's hard to get past.
