I have a heating problem that I couldn't find the answer to by searching other posts. The last 3 days I have noticed that the air blowing out my vents will be warm, cold, warm, cold... etc. The truck engine is at operating temp and it doesn't matter what setting the heat ***** are turned to. Today, I heard a small squeal under the hood while the heater was blowing cold air. I also noticed my coolant temp gauge climbing up to the red. When the fan started blowing hot air again, the temp gauge fell back to normal temps. My only thought is maybe a belt slipping somewhere since the squeal sounded a little like a belt. Any thoughts on what all to check?
Thanks
slipping belt thats one thing, the other its either you pump is going out, and you thermostat is going south too. change both of them. do you see any coolant dripping of the pump? temp going to red its not a good thing on those trucks, take care of it asap.
anyway looks like time for pump and new t-stat...
stick with OEM. and BTW why did you change the T-stat? a little background....? did you have any loss of coolant from the dgas bottle cap? any white residue on the cap or around the bottle?
anyway if you going to go in again get a new tstat and the pump. and i would stick with OEM...
cool. now i feel your pain about going in there now. maybe drain the coolant through the coffee filter to reuse it. but sounds like yoneed that pump asap, dont tow like that for sure. cause that squeal was possibly your pump shaft freezing up....
Yes, coolant seems low and I can see red around the t-stat housing and pump. Truck must have dumped a lot of it since I checked a few days ago. I hope I have some ELC left over. It's hard to find in my area.
