Ok ill try to explain as best I can 98 4.6 non 3rd row seat runs colder than what I think it should about 1/3 up on temp gauge needle won't even clear the pic for gauge heat blows Luke warm but not hot seams like the faster the fan speed the lower the temp of the air what I have done flushing of heater core twice u can blow easy through it pore water in one hose comes right out other changed thermostat with the OEM temp not the lower one floor panel defrost ac switch all work as should u can hear the blend door move as u change temp and hear it tighten at the end to seal the door shut it also on heat panel or defrost blows more air on cold then hot seams kinda odd to me any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
It had the problem b4 I replaced the thermostat that was already in there as well I thought maybe the wasn't one or it was bad but it looked ok but replaced it anyway
The easy answer is that you're looking at a bad temperature sending unit giving you a low gauge reading, when in fact the temperature is up to normal. Plus the heater cores, although not blocked could have build-up inside of them which is preventing good heat transfer.
I'm more of the opinion that you're having thermostat issues. Even if the thermostat is good, coolant could be leaking past it. I just find it odd that you have a low temperature reading and poor heat at the same time. The odds of the two issues being unrelated are quite slim.
So ur saying try another New thermostat what about the chemical that u can run to flush/eat all the grime then redo the flush and refill with new antifreeze another thing I noticed is the temp of the heat is diff the colder it is out when 40 and up it is decent when under 30 like it was 26 heat is cold air even after running temp
First I would test the temperature of the coolant after the engine has had a good driving warm up. Don't rely on touch of hand. Use an actual thermometer or even better is to use one of those laser thermometers on the t-stat housing. This will tell you whether or not it's actually getting up to proper temperature. If it is not getting up to proper temperature, then yes I would try a different t-stat.
Ok I will try to find a temp gun and shoot it and let u know what it says also one thing I noticed was after I got to work truck was as hot as it ever gets I poped the hood wile running and the top radiator hose was Luke warm to touch at best closer to cold took off radiator capand hardly any hiss like it had no pressure on it is that normal?
Nope, after a good drive you should not be able to hold onto the top hose without burning your hand. It sounds like the engine is not getting hot enough. This brings you back to a t-stat issue.

i had a simular problem and replaced my thermostat with a parts house brand. some of the heat was restored but wasn't quite up to temp which caused the torque convertor to hang up and not shift properly. I suspected the 'stat so i went out and bought a stant which is what some of the race guys use (good brand). all the shifting probs dissappeared and heat was restored. temp seems to be everything to these expo's, ive had 3 of them now. good luck w/your project !!!
