Federal law also says you can't cut the tag off your mattres. If the feds see your exhaust messed with, i agree you will see trouble. They won't see!!
Yes but if you take it to court because Ford voided your warrenty the judge is not even going to ask them to prove that removing it ruined the engine, Ford will come to court make the case you violated federal emission laws and they are not responsible for it beyond that point (you turned it into an offroad only vehicle at that point and that voids the warrenty in all cases) Judge looks at you the consumer says, pay Ford for the engine have a nice day. If your lucky that is the end of it, if your not and the judge is a jerk he calls the state DMV, or the EPA you get checked pulled in, plates are removed from the vehicle and the title is flagged as destroyed unable to lic until the fine is paid and you prove that the vehicle has been reset to factory original condition. Then if your lucky that is the end. If your in CA, or CO they can impound the vehicle on the spot and you have to take it to court to prove you never drove it on a public road with those modifications, if you can not prove that you no longer own said vehicle.
Edit to add: If you have read my posts in the past about EPA you know I am against the epa and personally believe they are responsible for a major part of the problems in this country, including some types of pollution, high fuel costs and poor fuel economy of current vehicles.
no it's not, you see the wrench marks on the bolts? it's a dead giveaway. Also the tuner itself if a violation of the same federal law and isn't even a challenge to prove in court that a tuner can destroy an engine, once again you will lose (they can and do prove all the time that tuners have damaged engines, this is completely different from the voiding warranty for changing the air filter which you might win with the right judge) Believe me on the being able to show tampering, had one do a trans switch from a vehicle that was out of warranty into his vehicle that still had factory warranty left, it was proved by looking at the bolts and the locktight used to hold some in place that it had been removed but no record of ANY warranty or actually any work being done at all that required removing trans (they can't void warranty because of someone else working on it). When your talking about a $9000+ bill they don't mind spending a couple thousand proving it and they CAN prove it very very easily.
(they will even go onto websites like this one, see where you posted you did it, copy the pages and use that in court)
I don't want to be wordy:
Fact: It is a FEDERAL law, DON'T mess with the exhaust system on a 6.4 engine.
Off topic: I did a little more checking. PACCAR ENGINES are going to be put in PACCAR trucks (aka Peterbilts & Kenworths) starting 2010. CATERPILLAR's biggest market for their over the road engines was, yep, PACCAR trucks.
Caterpillar did stand up to good old AMERICAN greed. NO SALES, no engines no more.
according to information I have the paccar engines are going to be made by cummins, however I think you can still spec a detroit,cummins,or......

gotfu, sorry, but you are dead wrong. In that, maybe you can spec other engines, but if PACCAR puts a crazy warranty on their engines, no one with sense will buy anything but a paccar engine. Check out what I say, they own DAF in Europe. No one can bluff CATERPILLAR. No one did. Paccar allegedly put up a billion American dollars, totally:
PACCAR Begins Construction of Mississippi Engine Plant
July 17, 2007, Bellevue, Washington – PACCAR held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new engine plant near Columbus, Mississippi today. The ceremony, led by PACCAR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Pigott and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, was attended by state and local officials, business and educational leaders.
“This is the official launch of an exciting and strategically significant development for PACCAR,” said Mark Pigott. “Our dealers, customers and suppliers have positively embraced this initiative, which will result in the highest-quality vehicles in the marketplace. This leading-edge facility will enhance PACCAR’s integration of technology in design, engineering, and manufacturing. It is our goal that this facility will be the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly commercial vehicle diesel engine facility in North America. The engines produced in Mississippi will complement DAF’s excellent engine factory in the Netherlands.” The $400 million facility will include a 420,000-square- foot engine plant and technology center on a 400-acre site in Columbus, Mississippi. Construction will begin immediately and is due to be completed in 2009. “This is a superb location, close to many of our North American truck assembly facilities, customers and supplier partners,” added Pigott.
actually not sure on being able to spec a detroit in a KW or Pete, Detroit was bought by DaimlerChrysler and now just Daimler powersystems (they also own frieghtliner and western star) There was talk a couple years ago that you would only be able to get the detroits in freightliners and western star trucks. That might have changed back but that was the last I heard about it.
Construction of PACCAR’s new engine production building in Columbus, Mississippi, was substantially completed in 2008. PACCAR’s premium 12.9-liter and 9.2-liter diesel engines for North America are planned to be manufactured in the Netherlands prior to production startup in Columbus in late 2010. Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks equipped with the PACCAR engines have recorded over 40 million miles in customer field testing with excellent results.
I second that the EPA should lay off the car companies the other end of the government is bailing out! DPF=reduced fuel economy another great deal from the government
All they do is try to correct the problems they caused.
