Old school step side bed
Old school step side bed
Just wondering if one would fit my 91 F150 4x4, she's an extended cab short box, I like the look of the old school bed, with the tail lights that are seperate from the fenders........
I don't really care about the body lines, I found one that is the same color (maybe a shade lighter) as my truck, he wants $350 for it, it's got no rust and retro L.E.D. tail lights.... A double tube bumper goes with it.......... (just one step in restoring my truck)
What year are you calling "old school"? Ford made a flareside bed in 87 that would match up perfectly with your 91 and it had seperate taillights. Or are you talking about the really old school 79-and-back with the rounded fenders?
Yup, '87 was the only year for this style of Flareside.

Another option to match the fender wells is a set of bolt on flares and cut out a set of '80-'86 fenders, like this.

A third option is grafting the wheel well lips from a set of '87-'96 dually fenders.

Ford used the same, identical, shortbox flareside bed from 1953 to at least 1972. I know because I have a '72. I believe 1972 was the last year of that box, before they moved to the more squared-off fenders, etc..., but I cannot remember for sure.
But I point this out in the same spirit as jas88 here, asking "What year are you calling 'old school'?" Some may not realize just how far back that one style actually goes.

Yeah, I hear you on the shortbox-limited hauling capacity. But it didn't really matter to me, back then, because once I got done "restifying it" with new, varnished boards, sandblasted and repainted bed hardware, and repainted truck, the only thing I really hauled in it was my own ego. And it fit! (barely--LOL)
