Hello all, I have a FE , guessing it is a 360. when she was running it was ballsy as possible. She died one day and now Im pulling her out. I am planning on a rering and refresh. Any suggested item I should do that are low cost?
She wore out her rings, that why I'm doing a refresh on her. Rings are weak and thing, Cyl walls are in great shape. No wear on them that can be seen. What Im asking is for tid bit other have learned over the years that will help with things like Oils leaks, Oil pressure. cooling. I am having the Heads cleaned and checked for cracks. And Going to get the blocked cleaned. So Im open to any good tips out there
should do the oiling mods as mentioned in the faq link at the top of the forum.
Other than that may want to consider a windage tray if you dont have one, and maybee electronic ignition. definately upgrade the oil pump drive shaft.
I read he mods suggested, question,
1: how long a drill bit is needed?
2: How do you secure the jets?
I have a full after market electronic ignition all ready installed.
Engine came with after market electronic ignition, Tranny Cooler, oil Cooler, Power steering cooler ( was a real surprise on that one ) When she was running, she ran like a rocket.
What i thought was rings was actually oil seeping by the guides some years ago on my 428. Really messed up my 7-8 cyls.....
Always fouled the plugs
Starting to sound a little familiar.
Took the heads over for a rebuild and the had the machinist come over to the shop and mic the holes.
He talked me into new rings and honing the bores.
Said the variances was very small. Took forever to seat the rings in though.
Well, I can hone them myself, But It starting to look like I popped Head gaskets, After looking carfully, there no wall wear, No lip at all. I wil be pulling the block tomorrow and find out, But I may not need rings after all. But I will get the heads cleaned and checked, and have the block cleaned also since I will have it out.
Im having them check by a buddies machine shop. He one of the best around here. And he knows what test he needs to do. Im having him clean, mag flux, plane if needed. New guides, Valve grinde and seats, all this for $50
Well I believe I found the problem, ( Keeps kicking his *** ) Pulled the engine, pulled the timing cover and found that I can remove the chain with out removing the smooth cam gear.
