Ok i have another question. Are all c6's the same? I have a '78 bronco with a c6 and a np205. Now would a c6 from a '87 F350 2wd work with the tailshaft and housing from the '78 bronco?
Not all C6s are the same. C6s do not have a detachable bellhousing, so the case is specific to the engine family. A C6 from a 460 will not mount to a 302, for instance.
Sorry i should have gave a little more info. I know that the case is specific to engine familes. I was wondering would the tailshaft and tail housing from an earlier c6 like my '78 bronco bolt onto a '87 F350 2wd c6?
If you're asking this swap question because one trans is bad and the other is good then don't bother it. As mentioned the output shaft has to match the tail housing being used and to replace/swap the output shaft the trans has to be broken down and you may as well rebuild it while it's apart so why bother messing around. Just rebuild the current trans.
I'm asking because i'm building up a ranger and i have a 302 to put into it. So i need a C6 to bolt up to a 302 but i have a c6 with np205 on a blowen 400.
Here's another problem you will run into. The SB C6 that is already set up for a 4X4 truck will have a shorter rear adapter than that of the C6 that is behind the 400. What happens is the SB C6 has a longer or you could say wider T-case which moves it further away fro the side of the trans. If you try to run a 205 case on this SB trans the drive shaft will hit the trans pans. So your best bet is to find a SB 4x2 trans and have the output shaft swapped over from the 400 C6 trans you have unless. I'm not sure you would have enough room between the frame rails to run the later model wider t-case in the ranger so the 205 may be your only option.
