Welcome to the blown tranny club!! I'm on my 3rd LOL. Next one is John Woods, wanted this one to be but timing just didn't work out....
Hey Mongo, don't take my last post the wrong way
On a another not, anytime I hear someone on their third and fourth transmission it concerns me. We get a lot of transmission back on their second and third failures. 75% of the time it is because the lines and cooler were not flushed properly, is there a chance this may be your issue or are you just tearing them up? For this reason all of our transmission now go out the door with a mandatory secondary filtration systems that picks up most debris the flush may have missed.
The filter kit is also sold separately, might be an option for you?
I personally would buy from anybody fighting to prevent another 911 in our.... or their own country for that matter. God bless to all for their sacrifice. What ever country your from.

PS-Just discovered I have a B&D brand Exhaust brake in my new used truck. I think that rocks!

Thanks Dave, and actually I have a thread on the 99-2003 7.3L titles Exhaust Brake Help? Please join and catch up if you could find the time. If not that's okay...I would suspect your a busy guy. Thanks in advance. I now return this thread back to the originator...sorry.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Mullet… Take a look at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com I have a 2001 F350 that the tranny blew at 75,000 clicks. I now have 130,000 on it with no issues. I pull about 10,000 lbs with it (as you may be able to see in my pic). I would agree that the torque converter is the main culprit of the trannys going out in this model year truck. That is what they told me took mine out. I paid about $5200.00 installed. <O Just my $.02 <O FT
Mullet… Take a look at <st1:stockticker>ATS</st1:stockticker>. Not saying that Dave’s trannys are not any good. Just thought I would give you another company to research. If your receive the Diesel Power Mag, you cant miss them.

No offense, Options are good for the customer... ATS makes good stuff too.
You are correct about the converter being one of the culprits and I would like to add to that. The converter can be so problematic because of the heat it generates when not operated correctly. Over-spinning the convertor will happen when the lock up clutch is not kept engaged which will causes the fluid to heat up from oil sheer. By keeping the convertor in lock up while pulling a hill or on deceleration is critical! A lot of guys will pull the transmission into 2nd gear to assist in slowing down their trucks which is also a big no no with out a lock up controller to keep the clutch engaged, this will also over spin the convertor.
Cooling Options:
-Invest in a Trans Temp Gauge.
-Install a Deep Oil Pan.
-Install a Trans Cooler if your gauge tells you too!
-Install a low stall convertor and learn how your convertor operates
-Install a lock up switch after you learn how your convertor operates
I know most of you probably understand the convertor operations but for those of you who do not, the sooner you have a better understanding of how it operates the less money you will be sending BD or ATS. LOL
If you have any questions on any of the options I have mentioned to extend the life of your transmission please list them for us to answer.

I would be happy to help, can you send me the link though, I am having troubles locating it.
Dave, I have a question for you... Like I stated in my previous post, I have an ATS tranny with their 5 star converter.
First, it atuomatically locks up about 40 mph but when it is cold (0-15 deg.), it may take 5-10 minutes to lock up and then works fine once warm. What could be causing that?
Second, when you hit the brakes, it unlocks and will engage again after you let off the brakes. Is there something I can add that will keep it locked up? As you stated, it is nice to use the motor to help stop, especially when descending down a hill. Can I just bypass the brake switch with a toggle and let it disengage by itself when I drop below the 35-40 mph range?
I know this is not your product but you obviously have great insight.
Hi Dave, I don't want to hijack this fellas thread so here's the link. It appears to be growing. We've identified it as a BD Power exhaust brake..pretty positive. Thanks so much!

The software in the PCM is causing that. It won't lock the torque converter until the engine and transmission warm to a certain temperature.
Dave, why would a trans builder, such as BTS tell me not to install a deep pan? Unless I was racing.
I am not sure why he would tell you that, they may not make a huge difference, but they will reduce temperatures a bit but ultimately you should run a trans cooler too if your are having heat issues.

Because it's a fact that a deeper pan doesn't help with cooling issues (if that's your issue).
You just get more oil hot.
Fins on pans, yada, yada, yada.... Pure Pelosi.
Get a bigger tranny cooler. That's what they do.

I have to disagree, I have seen the tests with the pans (not just ours) and the finned aluminum does cool faster. Fins for cooling are not a gimmick. Fins have been dissipating heat on motors and other forms of metal since the turn of the century.
Maybe........ but a cooler will be $$$ better spent. I agree with Marv a bigger pan is just more hot oil. A cooler however is just that a cooler. Its job is to cool

I am not disagreeing with that, a tranny cooler will do a much better job! I am disputing that the pans will not do anything.
