Does anybody know if there is an "Exhaust Brake" sticky somewhere here so a newbie could learn "everything and anything" regarding them without asking allot of silly questions? I've got one on my new (used) 2000 F-350 4x4 dually and would like to know the brand it is...and how to tell if it is working right? I suspect it isn't. I'd appreciate a point in the right direction? Thanks in advance.
If you have one then its ether on the turbo or downstream from turbo. When its activated you will here it slam shut when you let off the go peddle.Lack of use is the biggest problem exhaust brakes tend to stick open or closed. Some are air operated and some run off of volts.

GOOD stuff. I was able to contact the owner prior to purchase who stated he drove around with it "On" all the time. Stated it only works when you let off the pedal and opens again as soon as your on the fuel. He stated he left it on most the time as he felt it gave your wheel brakes allot more longevity.
I don't hear anything other than the click of the red **** on the shifter when I pull up or push back down. I feel no difference in the speed or seat of the pants when I engage or disengage?
Can you tell us where the brake is located? Like superdudy said picture? If there is no power and lots of smoke then the brake is closed not good. Did the owner say it was an after market brake such as pac brake or something else like homemade.Drive the truck down the hiway flip switch see if you slow down some. Park at idle see if you can here the brake activate when you flip switch.Could be blown fuse or sticking flapper that needs to be lubricated.
I really appreciate yuor helping. It's located on the six speed shifter near the top of the shift ****. YOu can see it here..https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...&pictureid=899. The exhaust is sweet and clean. By the looks of it you could breath it. (kids don't try this at home).
Maybe you can tell the brand by looking at it in the pic? It doesn't seem to do anything other than the red **** makes a click when pushed up/down? As an aftermarket ..where might I look to check for a blown fuse? Does it have to be activated electrically or do they make manual also?
I'm sorta dissapointed as I expected like when I was a kid and would listen to those bad "Jakes" on the big rigs comming through town. ChugggaLugga oh you get the picture.
Nice looking truck!
It looks like you have an air operated brake... the switch is electronic and operates an air cylinder that opens/closes the brake I'm guessing from this pic: There should be some fuses in line somewhere, or follow the wires through the cab to see if its fused inside somewhere. You may also have an air leak that is not allowing the cylinder to close the brake.
Oh and FYI... there is no stock chip on these trucks- you got a SuperChips tuner and SuperChips chip there. Those are okay for now as long as you are careful, but before long you'll be wanting a DP Tuner I'm sure

Thanks Chase. But all I see is a bunch of spaghetti here. haven't got one of those little red arrow thingys the computer gurus use do ya?
I'm going to run out and see if I can follow the cable off the shifter.Brrrr it's cold out there!
Well I see a what looks like a two speed rear axle control switch which is ether controlled by air or electric wires running from it.I dont see the exhaust brake at all in the picture.I see yellow lines running near the turbo can you take a picture of the turbo for us? Im looking for the exhaust brake

Reason: ?
Hey Chop that red **** is the exhaust brake controller. It looks like to me just like the splitter **** on my dads old truck when I was a kid. The yellow line you see running under the drip lip is coming from my Isspro EGT gauge, that doesn't work either by the way (but thats going to be another thread).
I just came back from taking a few pictures of what I found interesting in the top left foreground of the pic posted by Superduty. I found the words Exhaust and brake control. I've got to get them resized and fixed so I can post and hopefully you boys will recognize what I' might have. Chase you may be on to something?
When you find the exhaust brake then find the air compressor see if you have 12volts there when you activate the in cab switch. You could have a miss adjusted throttle switch located near the go peddle.
Thanks Chop I don't have any way of reading anything with anything other than maybe a 120-220 to 440v tester, and that's not going to getter done.
I've got some pics resized but am wondering since it's asking for a url to post does that mean I need to start or add to my existing album? I don't get a browse button to post off the desktop?
Okay I've got an update that might help. I tracked down (long story) the guy that installed the exhaust brake. He stated it's a B&D Exhaust Brake that has an electric actuator, and works off vacuum?
He stated over the phone that he would be more than happy to check it out in his shop. His shop rate is $ 60.00 an hour.
I don't know what a B&D Exhaust brake even is... or how it works so I'm off to Google what I might be able to find. Don't know if it might be junk or is rated okay? If anybody here has one, and knows of some simple fix. Please feel free to jump in. I don't have any paper work on it.
The shop owner stated it is the very same one being installed today.
