You did remove the wedge bolt ? (Center axle, back side) Penetrating oil and a torch if thy are really bad.
I have seen a couple wedge bolts held in by simply flattening the big end with a chizel. This is common on older trucks apparently. Usually they have a nut on the small end. Make sure the wedge bolts are out. Some axles have one, some have two wedge bolts for each knuckle.
Took to shop and had new set installed. Fortunately, the shop found diver's side race exceeded limits so I returned to the salvage yard and got a replacement.
Posting couple links on the subject, suggest running search, narrow field to 61-66 forum , may find additional info:
Finally, there is 'how to' article on 67-72 king pin replacement. If interest, need to run a 'google, or Yahoo' search under "67-72 ford pickup truck resource" and it will take you to the link. Since it's another Ford truck forum it would not be appropriate to post the link, and moderator would censor it out anyway.
I've been in your shoes, beat on king pins 'till my arms hurt, heat, oil, nothing worked. Took it to a shop and they charged 40.00 a side.
WELL WORTH IT !!!!!!!!!!!
I have put a hydraulic jack directly under the kingpin and lift the truck from that point. Heat the end of the axle, and hit the axle with a sledge hammer, driving the axle towards the jack. When doing this, make sure you have a jcakstand under the axle to catch it when (or if) the kingpin moves. Also, I have cut the knuckle off with a torch when I get to this point, so I'm only working on the piece of kingpin stuck in the axle. To cut off the knuckle, I cut the thrust bearing first and get it out of the way. I then cut the kingpin on the botton side, When that is out of the way, I raise the knuckle with a hydraulic jack and cut the top of the kingpin ( about a half inch between the knuckle and the axle) to remove the knuckle. Be careful not to get into the axle when doing this.
If you have a donor truck I would just swap the entire front axles and not even mess with the king pins, that is to say if the king pins are good and do not need replacement because of wear.
As to removing the king pins, I beat on them darn things till I was blue in the face. I tried a torch to heat the axle, I tried an air hammer to really beat on them and nothing worked. I finially pulled the entire axle off the truck and took them to a shop I use to work at and used their hydraulic press. It took a lot of force with the press to get them to budge, once they popped they came right out. If it was me I would find a press and save you a lot of time and energy and press them out.
Then use some emery cloth to clean the holes up to remove the rust and junk and then use the press to push them back in. I would also put some anti-seize on in case you ever need to get them back out again. Anti-seize is great stuff, I use it on all sorts of stuff and it is pretty cheap and last a fairly long time. It makes taking things apart in the future so much easier and only takes a few seconds to apply, well worth the extra time now to save on major time later to get something stuck apart.
what im trying to do is get the disc spindals off the doner to clean them up to go on the drop beams when thet get here
Good reason to pull the spindles off. I would still use a press to press them out, much easier and lots less wear and tear on your body. If the I beams are still on your donor truck there are only a couple bolts to remove the I beams come right off.
