Just wanted to add; does the model body type (identifcation tag) determine if its a true customcab body?
Like E81 verse said a B81????
You see so many version of assesories on these trucks'; I usually try to determine a customacab mainly by the front windshield trim & speedo. but that can't always be the determining factor either. Because unless your the Originial owner "who knows"
For the vast majority, the package composition as shown in my galley and literature is gospel...BUT there have been slight deviations over the years...on these trucks the DSO would NOT be the standard 2 digit code denoting a regular production vehicle.
These specially trimmed or equipped trucks would have a 6 digit DSO code...firat 2 are the DSO(where original selling dealer ordered the truck from) and the last 4 is the actual order number used by Ford and the plant to keep track of paperwork.
Then there are alot of things seen in these trucks which are part of SOME packages and not offered on some but offered as a dealer installed option for all...the best example and most common I believe would be the inside door storage compartments.
As to the door tag denoting a Customcab trimmed truck...the letter or letters in front of the 81 do indeed denote a Custom cab truck...if there is a number in front of the 81...or whatever body type number the truck is, the number denotes a base model truck...aka...stripped down version.
My truck has the door storage compartment, bright metal grill/headlight assembly, windshield moulding, door handles, horn ring, perferated headliner, sun visors, cig lighter and one arm reast, but that is all.
No scuff plates, door panels , door trim moulding, headliner moulding or passenger arm rest.
Does that sound right?
In 1963, the driver armrest was standard as I recall...the RH was optional. It sounds like you prolly also have the 2 piece headliner too...the Custom cab script would have 6 small holes in the center of the upper area of the door...it may also have had Custom Cab door handle bezels...this would be on trucks WITHOUT side trim...trucks WITH side trim got the door nameplate script instead of the door handle bezels.
If your truck, being a 1963, has the door tag on the rear of the driver door face thats NOT its original door...on 1963s the tag was on the glovebox door.

Why would it be necessary to relocate the tag from the glove box lid to the door face?
"being a 1963, has the door tag on the rear of the driver door face thats NOT its original door...on 1963s the tag was on the glovebox door."
61 has a Vehicle identification tag plate on the glove box door.
62 has a Warranty tag on the glove box door.
63,64,65,66 all have the warranty tag on the drivers door just below the latch...
I have found the plates all over the truck, even riveted to the dash, The locations i posted are right out of the ford shop manuals. It helps to know where there at when looking at a truck that has a, AHEM disagreeable pedigree. I once really pissed a guy off selling his 100 percent original and priced accordingly 64 F250 4x4 with a F10 Vin number and a mated 2 speed case..I never knew ford installed 74 frames under 64 sheet metal in 1964 on 2 wheel drive trucks...
I have also bought trucks with warranty tags on the door and on the glovebox lid.. and neither of them matched the frame or the title...Avoid bill of sale states....
Look on a 61 tag it has vehicle identification number all other years say Vehicle Warranty number..
