I finally found Rottela SYN at walmart for 19.00. I'm wandering when I go to the synthetic should I drain the oil longer to get most of the old oil out? What all benifit's am I gonna get out of it? Is it worth the extra money for the synthetic, compaired to rottela 15/40? and will it hurt it if one day I go back to 15-40 in case the syn goes trough the roof again? thanks for the input fella's!!
I wish my walmart would stock the stuff, i had to drive all over the place yesterday to find my oil as my usual supplier had just been cleaned out that afternoon. Just drain until it quits draining and you'll be good, there is always some oil left over in our systems. It will not hurt to go back to 15/40 later, there is a big benefit if you are in colder climate to go with the 5/40 just for ease of starting with the 5/40 and generally synthetics wear better then dino.
I just switched to Rotella 5w40 synthetic had to buy it from a Shell supplier and I will get oil sampling to see how long before the need to change the oil also installed a bypass filter.
you'll be fine going back. i switched for this winter to see how she ran. and she sure does run a lot better in the cold. been down to -20 or so and she runs like a top from start up.

If you go to Shell'shome page andlook up the MSDS for Rottela "synthetic you will see it's 1-10% synthetic blend with highly refined oil.
I've heard the same thing about it not being a full syn. But for the price, availibility (Wally World) and the cold start benefits it's I'm running from now on.
Woked great at -45 below a couple of weeks ago......the fuel not so much.....
Well I looked at the SHELL site for rottela syn 5-40 and it didn't state anything about the 1-10% .It stated full synthetic.
You have to look for the CAS number (found in the MSDS sheet) to somewhat decipher the base oil composition.

It used to be that the Group IV and Group V base oils were really the only synthetics. Now the highly refined hydroisomerized Gas oils are considered synthetics.
has anyone heard anything about the Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme oil? i have heard that the regular dino Premium blue does wonders for the 6.0 and it really seems to like it. the Extreme Premium Blue is supposed to be a true synthetic but i can not find it anywhere. i've checked autozone, advance, car quest, napa and walmart and no one has it. i would really like to try this oil. if someone has a part number or knows of where i can pick some up let me know.
