Okay I got word today its finished. With injector being bad yesterday. This morning they found my EBP was bad (after i replaced it) and my fuel pump. Neither of the last 2 items were under warranty. So hope this helps out. I will let you know how she runs when I pick it up.

Well driving to work yesterday morning it was kinda chilly out maybe in the low 50's it started bucking again getting onto the highway. I think ive got it figured out though its got to a injector issue. That being said I think its directly related to the type of oil im running. Currently im using the rotella dyno 15w-40. I just changed the oil 500 miles ago so im going to try and get my moneys worth from the dyno. I plan to try going to syn maybe 5w-30? See if that helps out. Anybody have any advice on what weight syn I should be running?

Also I did notice when i got it back i think it was reflashed. I had the buzz flash awhile ago. When the FICM was replaced it went to the inductive heat flash. Ive noticed when I turn the key now, the injectors click for a second then its quiet. Anybody know if they came out with a new flash? I can tell you it feels like I lost 50 hp when not tuned.

Thank you.

Sean

I had similar problems when the dealer put in 15-40 dino after the HPOP fix. I also "dealt" with it but after @ 3k miles I was just tired of it, and changed it early. I use Rotella 5-40 syn, blue bottle from chinamart. Its 19.99 there. I can't comment on 5-30 as I haven't used it. The 5-40 syn seems like it works good for me in the temps I live in- coldest winter temp maybe 0-5 deg. at the coldest, to high 90's maybe 100 once in a while in the summer. I *think* I can still detect a miss, but I'm pretty sure its just the roads I've been traveling as when I let off the gas pedal I can still detect it. I guess I'm still just paranoid it will leave me stranded again, like when the HPOP went. That's always in the back of my mind, its just a trust issue, probably not necessary anymore. She's been running great, in fact I hand calc'ed 16 mpg last 3 days mostly hiway w/EGR unplugged, but I have since plugged it back in. Maybe you could just dump the oil if it only has 500 mi on it and keep the filter in there? But for less than $20 it is cheap insurance AND peace of mind.

Yea thats a good idea. You dont think I will have any issues with that filter and the little bit of dyno in the top end of the motor? I dont know back in the day I was always told never mix dyno and syn. It will foam or gum up or something I cant quite remember. I think it was an old rumor anyway.

thank you.

Nah, it won't hurt. Guys on here go back and forth depending on season, but you should be OK just running 5-40 year-round I would say. I do, alot of other guys do too. As far as the dino still in the system, I think I read recently the HPO system retains like 4 qts that won't drain doing a regular oil change. Dry capacity, i.e. after a rebuild, is 19 or 19.5 quarts, whereas an OC will be somewhere betw. 13.5 and 15 qts. If I'm mistaken, someone else will chime in. Would I do it? Right now, I'd probably just spend the $20 for a new filter, but if money was tight like it was over the last couple months, I would leave it in. Its only 500 miles, but that is up to you. My .02

Alright D8, I took your advice. Spent $100 after work and changed my oil with rotella 5w-40 syn. It was still hot when I fired it back up and drove it around, right away I noticed a change in the throttle response. I will let you know in the morning when its cold if it starts to buck and miss. It was really bad this morning making my decision to change the oil tonight a fact.

Thank you.

Sir i will say you are very knowledgeable. You must work for ford or just Really love your truck.lol I work for international and was having an issue that you guys are describing today with just the exact same bucking on a bus with the vt365. I was noticeing a small drop in icp when happeing but it happens so quick its hard to see. I did the icp diag and found the STC fitting was leaking ever so slightly under a hard pull. I repalced the stc fitting with the new jam nut style. Fixed my issue. Dont know if this helps but maybe it will.

Hmm, from the start ive been looking at the thing, no oil leak that i can notice. Do you have a part number? Well nevermind I would be going to Ford the numbers wouldnt match. Did you have a what i would call "engine miss" while hard WOT? Between the bucking when cold, and the miss WOT when hot i keep looking at the injectors.

These engines are so hard to diagnose being that everthing is tied into one another. Its hard to believe that it could be a injector issue cuase then you should have a code for it. Stiction that you have heard about is normally casued by stick spool valves and 9 times outta 10 goes away when hot. YEs the issue you have does seem pretty close to the issue i was having today. If you or a buddy have a scanner hook it up. Road test the unit take a snapshot of when the issue happens. Moniter ICP actual and ICP desired, EPB, egr valve position, boost psi. When this happens your actual ICP should never be less than 50 of your desired. Also check to see if your egr valve is opening and closing. This can cause i miss sound or bucking. Also we use a product called BG. THey sell an oil purge that is does wonders for cleaning the injectors. Run it high idle for 10min then fill with your chocie oil and run the conditioner. This stuff is not cheap at all but the one bus company that uses this has 10 vt365 buses. from years 2003 to 2006 and very very rarely ever have any issues at all. I can get you that STC fitting number. It is only $20 but you really need to have it if not already installed espically if you are going to do serious mods after warrentty.Bad part is you need a special 15/16 crows foot to tighten it to its 53ftlb and its not fun on a bus so im sure its hell on a pickup The part should be the same and alot of stuff you can get from international and do not pay the crazy markup ford sells stuff for. Maybe this will help. IF you need any prices or anything for your enigne just let me know and i can look for you

Atta boy! Wasn't that bad, was it? Ya gotta get up close and personal with your truck so she knows you love her Looking forward to your thoughts. You will probably notice a slight increase in mpg's also.

Well I am impressed. Started better than usual this morning. Took it out of the neighborhood the long way that I usually go to get it nice and warm. Pulled out onto the highway started to slightly buck, however it did it only as long as it took to start. I will tell you think I am sold on synthetic oil. I love the way it drives now, and for the most part I have no issues. I need to pick up some lumber bright and early tomorrow so I will see how it handles a second day. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you for the advice.
Not a problem, its nothing anyone else here wouldn't have told you. My truck really doesn't like 15-40, so she gets the good stuff now. Shooting for that 600+ k miles I just read about!
