"Are you still under warranty? If so, it may be easier on you to take it in unless you have a code reader like the autoenginuity. To me it sounds like an injector issue and they are somewhat complicated to troubleshoot without the right tools."
I am still under warranty. My thing is if I can fix it while in my drive way and do it after work I would rather get it done. I love working on my truck and why not have fun? I sent it into Ford. 9k left on my warranty why not. Have had thing slight problem for way too long.
As far as your list of wire chafing issues.. Good Lord, you are the man. I actually ran off the E series version I found and came up empty. I didn't think about tugging on the harness, I bet now that I have this info they come back with just this problem. my luck and all.
"Also - what oil do you use (and how often do you change)?
D8Chumley is right on target by changing to sytnthetic 5W-40."
I am running rotella SAE 15w40. as far as sample of the oil. I changed it less than 200 miles ago and do it max 5k.
Running Syn, yea I will from now on, warranty is almost up and why take a chance. I should have been from the beginning.
Thank you both for the input, and both will have rep points for your time as soon as I post this.
Thanks for the rep points! I know what you mean about enjoying working on the truck! They are complicated though, so I find it helpful to always check into the "simple" things you can before taking it in - even if it is under warranty. Hopefully it is something as simple as wire chaffing for you.
As far as the oil post, I was primarily posting for the OP, but I do believe in synthetic (alomg w/ running the most recent flash from Ford). Stiction (or oil latching) is a common occurance w/ our "oil actuated" injectors. Once you have it and operate w/ it for awhile, you can do permanent damage to injectors.
Summary on Stiction:
There is a small spool valve in the top of the injector that controls the flow of high oil pressure fed to the intensifier piston in the fuel injector. That spool valve only moves .017", back and forth, on and off every time the injector fires. Many factors play in to how well that valve works such as, oil temp, oil quality, normal wear, ambient temp, and many others. As this valve ages it polishes itself inside the bore of the spool valve and as the spool valve slams back and forth it can set up the condition like a suction cup, hanging the valve to one side or the other. This uncommanded uncontrollable condition is called stiction. Mostly its a rough run cold condition but in severe cases it can be a no start or pretty harsh misfire condition. Oil that stays inside the valve on a hot engine shutdown and is allowed to cool slowly in the injector can aggravate the condition on restart, so the newest reflash uses inductive heat after shutdown to keep the oil warm, keep its viscosity low, and maximize the oil flowability to purge the oil from them. It has worked fantastic. It is an excellent preventative measure.
I will NEVER work on my truck Heck, I don't even wash it !!!!
I leave those things to more qualified people than me - I do my thing well and I let them do their's
Given my Ex developed a blip during idle, I never bothered with it until I needed freon in the a/c this week,... ran fine all other times, but at idle...
brought it into ford under 100k warranty and FOUR injectors are being replaced !
@ $250 or so per pop - I would bring your's to Ford before warranty runs out...
Nope, They were not able to get to it friday. Say monday for sure. Had to use the father in laws GMC to get lumber this moring, I guess thats the worst part for me.
Update, Sadly no update. They couldn't get it into the shop today. I've been told the morning for sure. So with any luck I will be able to report back after work tomorrow.
Wow man the economy isnt affecting those guys......
Keep us posted !
As you can see from my post my problem is the EGR valve.... And after cleaning it yesterday just gotta decide whether to plug it or leave it????
Almost a week since my plug fell out and it hasnt acted up once
Yea no kidding, I hope that isn't a sign trucks are going nuts. I had my EGR unplugged for while in the past, I hated it only because the boost wouldn't go past 25 with me. I ran it unplugged after it started to pull these foul ups, no change. If I were you I would plug it back in a see, who knows.
Okay, I got a call this evening from Ford. I have an injector that went bad. Not sure what side yet. They want to keep it overnight try a cold start and see how she run's. So all this time I thought it was my EGR. I will be changing oil to syn, and will start using hot shots secret. I will let you all know if it needs more parts or if I get to enjoy my truck again.
I developed a miss under a minor load. Took it to the dealer and they put a new EGR valve in, decarboned the intake, turbo and EGR cooler. It runs perfectly fine now.

Ya know, I worked for GM for years, with Saturn's. That was the first thing that I thought of with my problem. Then I started to look into it. Its seems to me like with the 6.0 the same issues can occur with different problems. I thought the EGR, cleaned same problem. With the intake I would assume more of a air flow issue. WIth my truck, it was cold start ups and driving, and WOT acting like a miss fire. Who knows, just venting. I wont know for sure what my problem was until the morning for sure.
