Exhaust Issues
Hello All:
I have a 61 f100 v8 292, I'm thinking of running dual exhaust but really not sure, help me with following:
If I can put my hands on a set of dual exhaust manifolds, would there be any type of heating/fire hazards (oil pump)?
I don't want to put them on and have to risk that type of danger.
My other option would be to keep the original setup and run a y-pipe to the drivers and on the passenger side. Can I have y-pipe custom made?
My final option is keep it as single exhaust and put a nice mello turbo muffler on...
Any opions would be appreciated

First, there is no fire hazard in running duel exhaust. You will pick up some power and a nice sound with the right mufflers. I would suggest taking your truck to a good muffler shop and ask them what they would suggest.

Thanks one muffler shop told me no problem with headers or a dual exhaust manifold....another told me it would be too much heat near the oil pump and could possibly cause a fire....

I wouldn't use the shop that is running your exhaust that close to your oil pump! If you think thereis a problem area with heat to close to something,(starter, transmition lines, or whatever) there are heat shields or protective wraps for starters and such that work great for protection. Do a search on wraps, or heat protection for lots of info on the stuff, and who carries it.
