Trues are usually the most benificial as far as power goes.

^Higher in the rev range. If you want to keep low end torque, stick to a Y-pipe.

Nonsense. Depending on pipe size, neither is better than the other. I would rather have true duals, though.

yeah, pipe size matters. doesn't a smaller pipe mean more low end or have I heard wrong.

To a point, yes. A relatively stock 4.6 or 5.4 with straight 3 inch piping is gonna have a bad low end. 2.25 or even 2.5 should do you just fine though.

Assuming you're using the same pipe size in both, a y-pipe will keep the low end better than true duals will. There's a reason only performance cars come with trues

What engine do you have? I have true duals on my truck and didn't have a loss of low end torque.

A single pipe is cheaper, and easier for the factory to design, and install. It has nothing to do with better performance over duals. The Buick Grand National came with single exhaust, and I definately consider it a performance car. So did a lot of Camaros, Firebirds, etc. I will say it again, a single exhaust can flow just as good as duals, it all depends on the design. The best Y pipe out there offers nothing over true duals. Then again, it doesnt lose anything to them either.

Guys, take it form someone that has seen too many dyno pulls to remember from many different cars and exhaust system designs. A large pipe will not kill that much low end. I have never seen a vehicle have "bad low end" from an exhaust change. Does a little move up into the midrange? Sometimes, depends on the car. A little extra midrange punch is desirable for some people.

But then, thats just my opinion...

Ha. You see those firebirds and camaro's were V6 models. So the cheaper the better. I'm pretty sure that since like 1969 there were V8 muscle cars with duals and they made hella power. The big ole' 428's and 455's and 427's benefited from duals and so should any smaller motor. It looks way better and performs better. But some people will argue. I like duals. Nobody says "I've got single exhaust....". People look for duals on a V8!

the ones in the 60's needed the duals so it could breath better at least that i what i think. i mean if you look at the engine size a 327 pushin 450hp is gonna need duals now a 6cyl doesnt produce as much power and therefore duals arent required. All i want duals for is for the sound, i mean im 16 and yeah i would like alot of power but i would rather have people notice me and say WOW taht truck sounds sweet, not look at that idiot with all that power i bet taht he gets a ticket or totals in a week.

"Ha. You see those firebirds and camaro's were V6 models. "

Look again. Even the last years they were made, and back to the early '70's the pipe didnt split until the muffler, yes, even the V8s. Single exhaust until the muffler, then dual tips. NOT a dual exhaust. Let me help you out...

I could go on...

"It looks way better.."
I will agree with you on that.

" ..and performs better. "
Depends on how the exhaust is set up.
And duals were around way before '69. They offered them on '55 Fords

f250rangerexplorer- Thanks, you are pretty darn knowledgable (sp?) yourself

Those HP ratings in the 60's were also Gross Horses not Net Horses. What i am saying is that if you have a 460 from 70 and a 360 from 72 they are the same motor but the power rating is less. the reason is because of the government required them to add on the altinator, Water Pump, Fan, etc. I believe the change was in 71 or 72.

Kens64: Hey us knowledgable folks gotta remind each other about how knowledgable we are once in a while right. lol,
