Exhaust Help

I have a 1994 F-350 4x4 that I baught this summer with a 351 and a C6. I had to fix a few things so far but the real hang up is the exhaust. I live in Mass so its rusted out. I want to put long tube headers on and then run a y-pipe to a single muffler and either a single or dual exit. The only problem that I am having is where do I find a y-pipe to work with any long tube headers? Also any ideas on what headers are best? If shortys are then can I get a y-pipe for them. Also yes I am going to drop the cat because my truck does not have to pass the sniffer. thanx for your time.

I put Flowtech longtubes on my F150 4x4. I ran into a couple problems. First, the longtube headers brought the collector extremely close to the transmission mount. I ended up having to use flex exhaust tubing to go under the the mount. Then I cut and resued (temporarily) the old y-connection portion from the original exhaust. I had gotten a y collecotr from online (dont remember where at the moment) but I ordered the wrong hole sizes. I'll try to take a couple pics after work tonight and post them if you like.

I've got my parts and need to get going. I'm currently P'Blasting every night in prep.

I bought Flowtech longtubes, will be adding a OX bung and EGR setup, using some u bends and straight pipe to custom build a Y pipe, then routing through a 2 into 1 piece to a straight 3" exhuast with high flow cat and muffler.

I may pick up some flex tubing to get mine going sooner, then spend a weekend cutting and welding that y pipe up.

You'll have to custom that Y pipe with longtubes.

Get Conanski and F350 to put up pics of their work to see what is up.

Paul, I've looked at these pics of yours several times. I swear it looks like your collectors don't come back as far as mine do. I didn't have the distance necessary to go over the tranny cross mount. I had to go under it. I'm not sure the difference.

Funny you should mention that. I'll have to upload the pics of the exhaust with the new Flowtech headers on the 5.0 motor.. they are totally different. The collectors are 6-8" further back and at least 2" lower.. which is totally unnecessary and really pissed me off. I had to rebuild the forward portion of the Y-pipe and was just able to squeeze the pipes above the tranny crossmember. Evidently I didn't leave enough clearance because they rattle on it now when the truck is in reverse.

Mine are on the 5.8 but sound exactly like the same unnecessary, crappy extension. I'll post tonight the pics of what I had to do for the time being. Maybe they changed the layout since you bought your last pair. I wonder if a change was made to make them fit more truck models...

The header has changed a lot since I bought my first pair, who knows why. I really liked the way the old headers were shaped, still lots of clearance and they were all but invisible from beside the vehicle. I think this will be the last Flowtechs I buy, I want a pair that sit up behind the frame more and a better finish wouldn't hurt either, the paint on these things is a joke.

Thanks a ton for the help guys, since I have a 5.8 are there any headers that you think would be better suited to me building my own y-pipe and run it over the tranny crossmember? I was thinking about Hooker competition headers?

Here are some pics of my exhaust setup around the crossmember under the transmission. I agree with Conanski, the paint on the headers sucks. You can see how quickly they've surface rusted, and they've only been a few months.

Here's a couple pics of both the older and newer headers on my truck, not exactly the same angle but you can clearly see how much further back and lower the collectors are in the first pic.
