I am actually running a 7.3 IDI style filter with a built in separator, its a direct bolt on swap. I originally got a conversion kit from DieselMan's web store. Came with a sensor chip that I wired into my engine harness so the original water in fuel ligh still works.
Later I realized just how rare the filter elements are so I went to a wrecker and bought a used filter head from a stock 7.3 IDI. Bit more money spent than I should have in the end, but at least this way I have no problems getting a replacement filter when ever I need one. WIF light still works.
Something I should also add is that I never had to ever drain my filter since I became religious about fueling up and the same cardlock. Been doing that for a good 2-3 years and never found any water in my filter. BUT!!!!! a single bad fuel up source is all it takes to get water in the system.
With 2 tanks my truck has such a long range that I never had to fuel up anywhere out of town unless I left home without fueling up first.
