Wait a minute, the 6.9 filters didn't have a drain **** valve on them did they? When I buy my filters for my 7.3 it is a "bottomless" filter. I just take a the bottom off my old filter (a factor piece) and screw it on my new filter, the bottom has a little valve on the bottom so when you open the valve diesel will come out, but bein it is on the bottom of the filter and water sinks to the bottom, all of the water will come out first then diesel will start coming.
But sadly if I remember correctly the filters on the 6.9 are a one piece filter with no stop **** valve.
If I were you I would go to a junkyard and see if you can find a 7.3 and I would buy the just the filter off of it (if it had the bottom like what I am talking about on it) and put it on your truck. Just wonder how much are filters for the 6.9 cuz a motorcraft filter is $40 bucks or so, and even the fram is $35.
