They ran a restored or restmoded 1950 F1 through tonight. It went for $36K. A lot of money for a truck.
Earlier they ran a 1947 Ford F1 through. Surely they know the best truck ever was built in 48, not 47. Did anybody else see that? Jeff
Ross,
It went for $ 33,000. It's a nice restoration, artillery wheels. Red with a cream stripe.
I think it's the 67th vehicle sold tonight.
There's a cool video of a Ford trimotor that was at Pearl Harbor that is going over the block this week. Check it out...
Jeff
IMHO, the 47 is a classy looking truck, more Art Deco than Bonus Builts. How much did it go for? Was it stock?
Yea Ross, it was stock had the Flathead 6 in it with a 3 speed floor shift. I think it went for around 36K, but can't remember for sure. The paint jobs on both those trucks was real nice but the hi-gloss of the two-part paint jobs just makes the old restored "stock" vehicles look odd. At least to me they do....

You're right, a stock enamel job (particularly just a little dulled-down) in Meadow Green or Sheridan Blue just makes these fat-fendered jobs "pop".
There were some great buys made last nite. An apparently mint 20 something Cadillac sedan w/ flattie 8 for 17,000$, for example... The seller must have been suicidal.
I watched the auction for the few minutes I can stand watching the show last night. I thought the prices were pretty subdued. Nothing I saw went for more than $20K, except the first car I saw when I turned it on, a slightly modified, two toned '56 Ch**y, I think it went for something like $30K? I thought the guy had at least that much in the car.
Maybe the one silver lining of the down turn in the economy is the prices of ever thing will come back down to a more reasonable level. It would be nice to see some of the old relics sitting on the side of the road come down from the gold plated prices their owners think they're worth, that's if the last wave of high scrap prices haven't cleared most of them out.
Bob,
I was thinking the same thing about prices, but this is the early part of the auction. Apparently the big buck cars are put in over the block towards the weekend. It did seem like the price were quite a bit lower than before. I enjoy watching all the stupid money exchanging hands. I just wish I had some....
Jeff
I just remembered that at the beginning the two commentators said these were the low end cars. Still, the few times I could stomach watching for longer than a few minutes, it seemed like no matter what, every one go Barret-Jacksonitist and would bid up a minimum of $30K for anything that went across the block.
The economy is keeping prices low....but they are still out of whack...unless you are selling one...and I have been to Scottsdale before and that was when the cars were 2 times higher priced.
My buddy bid and won a hemi superbird and now has it at his shop. The B.J. auction is a cool thing to go to....but costly.
I agree with the acrylic-enamel meadow-green paint----it just pops under the lights.
Bill
I think there were real deals last night, and the professionals who were doing the buying agree with me. I watched pretty much the whole thing, and two of the guys doing much of the buying were the curators for the Blackhawk Collection and Peterson Museum. They know value. Stu
