Barrett-Jackson auction: $70,000 F1 ???

I just turned the channel to Speed Television, they were recapping the day of top sellers at the Barret-Jackson car auction and they had this listed:

1951 Ford C5 Pug Truck $70,000.00

Did anyone see this? What the heck is it?

Oops, should have done a better search before I posted. Here it is:

Pretty wild looking. Too bad they wouldn't have used a modern ford drivetrain. I like the suicide rear doors...

I was out at Barrett today, saw the pug quite a nice looking truck. Thing about it is although it went for 70k the announcers on Speed were saying that that was a little low for something of that kind.

Well, I suppose it may have cost more than 70K to build it, so looking at it that way I guess they could be right. I couldn't imagine how many hours they have into it...

I keep drooling over this awesome truck:

A 56 F100 with an actual Ford V10. Besides the engine this truck is just clean and simple. I love it

Nice ride. I'll bet that V10 sounds different also, might make some heads turn as it drives by....

C5 Pug Update

For all that happened to see the Yellow 51 COE sell for $70K, it really is an extraordinary truck. When Del Marcum, the owner/builder, from Meridian, Idaho brought the truck to Spokane in 03 for the Goodguys event, I was fortunate to have the chance to sit in the truck and talk with Del about the build up of that rig. I took a bunch of photos, and as we sat and talked, I was amazed at the attention it got in the show. Del definitely did a super high quality job on it, and the body work is right up there with the Airflow that came out of Spokane for this auction and got $510K. I know he had a lot more in it than it sold for, and that was unfortunate, but he did all of us that are into the COE trucks a huge favor by setting the value much higher than they had been getting in the last couple of years. Of course he also set the bar much higher for build quality. Obviously he didn't use Ford Power, but the 502 in that truck was not only brand new, but as I understand from another source, it had been blueprinted, and the trans was a specially built automatic designed to handle extreme duty. It may not have been all Ford, but it was done to the highest quality imaginable. The new owner definitely got a deal.

If it might be interesting, I can post some other photos of the truck. I just have to figure out how to do that for a truck that I don't own, and still get it good view count. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Really! I might have to find a library to get a back issue. I think that is the look I am going for. It is very clean and simple looking. The 1 color paint along with the interior. I think I will be happy if I can finish my truck off like that.

If you happen to find the issue she was in, let me know.
