switch illumination

Crazy question...Wife has a 03 EB Expedition. We bought it used a bit over a year ago. I swear the sunroof, rear vent window, driver side window lock switches lit up. I also thought the memory switch lit up. I cannot find anything in the owners manual in regards to this. Can anybody confirm? If they do / did, can I replace the bulbs?

Yes they light up and yes they have bulbs in them and no they're not replaceable. Your two choices are to either replace the switches, or open the switches and attempt to solder in a new bulb (or LED).

If they all went out at the same time, you could just be looking at a blown fuse or a bad headlight switch. If they went out one after another, then it more than likely the bulb in each of the switches.

I'm glad someone asked this question. In my 01, there is no light in the window lock switch. But the lights for the memory switch do no come on. I don't remember ther being lights in the rear vent window and moonroof switches. I'll have to check. If so, I'll help troubleshoot.

No it was over the course of the past 6 / 8 months. At least I am not going insane! I think the Explorer forumn had an article on replacing the bulbs in switches. I will have to check...

I also need to add a sig...I have a 1993 F350 Crew dually turbo IDI, 1996 Explorer and a 1984 Mercedes 300D in addition to the wife's 2003 Expedition.

Yes it does, and just like the headlight switch bulb it is replaceable. It's a special assembly that is a dealer item which goes for about $10.

Here's a write-up on how to convert them to LEDs. At least you can now see what they look like.
