i have the cobalt c2 boost gauge in my truck. for those who don't know, it glows blue when the lights are on. the problem is that it was wired to the parking lights, not the dimmer, and it's pretty bright. so, i bought a 3 prong illuminated rocker switch and an in-line fuse holder....this way i can just have the gauge lit when i want it lit, not all the time. i would like an explanation(and diagram if possible) on how to wire this properly. i want the rocker switch to light up when the boost gauge lighting is off(so they offset). the gauge is wired into the parking lights, and grounded on one of the speedometer cluster bolts. i assume the switch needs a separate ground. thanks in advance.
I guess you do know if you found a blue/red wire under the dash and tied into that, then you could dim the guage light with the cluster lights.
As far as wiring it up per your description, I am not sure you can make the switch work the way you want it. I am going to assume of the 3 prongs, one is power in, one is power out, and one is ground for the light inside the switch. If this is the case, then the light in the switch is only going to come on when the switch is closed. So it would be impossible for you to have the switch light off, but the guage light on, unless you wanted to add a relay which is going to get way too complicated for this circuit.
