i think you'll find no matter what site you go on, you will get critisizm(sp). but if you don't say stuff to **** people off(witch seems to happen anyways no matter what) you will find alot of useful info. i think some of the stuff is brought on yourself..(like the driveshaft issue) but is all in good fun( at least i think). just give it time, if you prove yourself you will get to give as much ***** has you have gottin.
Glad you've solved your problem regarding the starter...

...but what a joke. Go to Pirate and post this same topic and see what happens. This is a friendly website. Although PBB is getting softer, it is still vastly untamed compared to here. You can't beat the tech on Pirate though, that is indisputable.
I've got the new starter on, but whats to stop it from doing it again? I've got mixed opinions. Seal it or not? I took it through my mud hole ONCE, and it was a ten second thing.

Mud is wet, and though it has some conductive properties, it will still work as long as the mud does not dry.
Sounds as though the mud has not been cleaned. This area is important to keep cleaned.
Wash this area out, and you can limit some of these problems.
Whether or not you run the cover or not, you have to help the mud get out of there.
You have a common denominator, and this is,,,,,,I hate to say it man,,,,,,,,preventative maintenance.
I know you do not want to hear this, and this might be a sore subject, but according to your own words, you let this slide a little.
Part of wheeling includes the identification of parts that fall off, and a verification that simple failures can be prevented.
Run a hose through that thing once in a while and you can be sure that you will never have enough mud caught in the bellhousing to cause this failure.
I don't mind preventive maintenance. Hell, as much as I was trying to be the Yin to all the Yang, I do it alot.
I'm not NEARLY as preventive maintenancey as MOST people on these forums. But it gets done. I mean, I do things that I think should be done and in some cases i'll go the extra step to keep myself going. I have a couple rubber bushing looking thingys to change and my truck will have pretty much everything replaced. I say that in the lightest sense.
I've pretty much gone through everything on this truck. And besides the AXLES, everything has 60k or less on it.
Just do what you have to do... It's hard to make a truck that from time to time doesn't give into the elements. If you luck is like my... as soon as you firgure out something... it's something else haha.
On a different subject, I see you plan on doing smoke stacks. Just as a favor to me... don't let the smoke stack tips rust out... I saw a guy today with that problem and it looks sooooooooooo ****y. Then again it look like a 85' FORD Range lol.
Yep. Well last night I was blowing off some steam and I decided to mess around down the road.
Long story short, "LOW RANGE" and "FIRST GEAR" are not good for hammering the throttle. Snapped my u-joint and yoke in half.
As for the stacks, I was oringinally looking at chrome for it. I don't know about that, rust up an all. Even so I think i'll just scuff it up once in awhile to keep it shine. I've just been too lazy to do it. I still have to put my snorkle on it.

really? broke a yoke? witch one? show us a pic.. and explain more of what you where doing.....
I'll post it tomorrow sometime. It broke the sides off the u-joint, and cracked the rear axle yoke clean through. The only thing holding it on was the plastic seal thing.
I was pissed off at my girlfriend so I was screwing around at 1am. I thought, hmm.. I can burn out really good in first gear. I bet if I put it in low range it would be REALLY good. SO.. I put it in low, shifted it to first, and hammered the throttle. It kind of lurched and stopped. I was only like a quarter of a mile from my house, so I loaded the driveshaft up, and just put it in four wheel drive and drove it home.
Buuuut. I'll post the pictures and a detailed explanation of what went down tomorrow night. I have pictures of the U-Joint and the yoke while its on the truck, but i'm going to take a picture of the yoke now that its off. I'm too tired to be posting a bunch of crap tonight. Had a 6 hour wheeling trip today. Sadly I only have like three pictures. And I don't think anything but my girlfriend and the Chevy I was wheelin' with are in it.
