So should I just leave the inspection cover off? It didn't have silicone on it but it was sealed up as best as they're made to be. I can see what your getting at by trapping it in, but wouldn't I get MORE in if I didn't have one? Should I just leave it off and hose it out occasionally?
Anyways let me know. I'm heading out to bolt up my fancy new heat shield.
I have no intention of taking pictures of my truck for you.
And Ryan, as a moderator, shouldn't you be off-topic.. a little less?
Personally, I would put the cover on. The vent slit on the bottom isn't going to let any significant amount of mud in, and if it does it will be finer particulate.
With the cover off you will let in a lot more mud if you sink in far.
I do agree with 75F350 that you should not seal the bellhousing vent, or attempt to.
I think I will have to agree with you. Or probably there is no 37's like he said and doesnt want to look more like a "poser". Probably just a 2wd f150 with bald 31" AT's.
Prozon-
Why would you have no intentions of taking pics of your truck? Can you give one GOOD reason as to why not??? I think I speak for everyone when I ask to see some good pictures. Seen everyone else's, why not yours?? Scared of something? To much critisizm??
Also, I agree with Ed 100%. I do not run shock boots, or any kind of covers as well. Flywheel is completly open. It makes it alot easier to clean out and inspect.
Twice on my 460, and once on my diesel, I've packed pressure plates up and ended my day early because the clutch stopped grabbing. Both have the exact same style bellhousing cover with the slit at the bottom. I replace the clutch in the diesel after that incident(factory clutch, with over 200K on it...) and never did put the cover back on(It just has a cover, unlike the 460 that uses it as a shim and starter locator) and never had an issue with it again, but, I also never really took it off road again either.
The 460, when it happened the second time, I had everything sealed up with silicone, and still ended up with a pressure plate packed with mud and grass and sticks etc behind the fingers, not allowing them to return all the way and engage the clutch... It took me over an hour with a pick to get that sucker cleaned out.
I've been debating opening that up and running with the bottom of the bellhouisng open, but, I'd have to cut the plate, and I only have the one. That and everyone I've mentioned it to thinks it'd be a very counterproductive idea. I know quite a few Chevy guys with autos that run without one, and even they think it'd be a bad idea with a manual.
But, if it's working for you guys, I may just try it.

the tread moved to the subjest of you taking pics of your pickup and posting them up, so was he really off-topic.. i think he was not.. are you getting butt-hurt because people think your truck is not what you say?
prove us wrong and put up some pics...
As for the sheilds.. i run them the way they came from the factory(at least on the trans. i take the dust sheilds off the front rotors)

I think it would be counter productive to take it off completely.
Heat sheild will likely save your starter.
Talking like that to admin's is a fast track to a little vacation.
You know the saying "Dont bite the hand that feeds?"
If you hadn't notice my display picture is my truck.. with 37's. So.. look at that? I'm going wheelin' monday so maybe i'll post some pictures up. As for the thread, as much as you would LIKE it to be about critising pictures of my truck, its not. Its still about my starter failure.
I'm really starting to dislike this website though. Everyone critisizes but rarely do you offer good advise. I do get some good stuff from you guys, but for every piece of good knowledge i'm flamed 10x more.
As of now, I have my inspection cover off. Its going back on before monday but I thought i'd leave it off so anything that is still in there can rattle out before I put the cover back over it. The starter failed due to mud. Not much more I can say about that.

You kinda bring it on yourself......
You will always get some critisizm, but personally, I have gotten TONS of advice and knowledge from this website.
And as for your display pic, it dont count. And they look like 33's to be honest with you.
