76 F-150 300 In Line 6, Stalls,idle Issue

Good day all, new here. Great responses to all issues!
I have a in line 6, 300 76 f-150,176000 MILES, SSI, 3 on the tree, man steer, power boost brakes....
Idles poorly, will run if i keep idle up at 900-1000, with a vibration. will stall coming to a stop. starts ok cold. I HAVE REPLACED plugs, wires, coil, cap,
button, all filters fuel(at carb) air, oil, sprayed cleaned carb, ran 2 tanks w/lucas fuel treatment, still runs rough.
not sure on carb, heater valve in exhaust, or valve adj

Looks like a carb / rebuild is next !?

any thoughts?
thanks

Might want to check for vaccume leaks. Probably a pretty large one.

You can take a can of carb. cleaner and spray around the carb. base, intake, and vaccume lines while it's ideling and listen for it to pick up. If it does then you've found a leak.

You don't want to use any kind of sealer on intake runner gaskets, you should install them dry.

The 300-6 didn't use exaust manifold gaskets originally. Only an intake gasket. The exaust manifold to head should be metal to metal.

There are aftemarket gaskets that have a exaust manifold gasket built into the intake gasket. Using these types of gaskets will increase the gap between the intake manifold and the head which can cause potential leaks.

If you use the aftermarket intake/exaust manifold gasket, you need to seperate the intake and exaust manifold from each other, then realign them for the new type gasket.

The Carter Motorcraft YF carb is the simplist carb to rebuild. You can take it apart and rebuild it in about two hours. Just make sure you take the time to clean the carb. This can take longer than two hours depending on how dirty.

As for the intake gasket, you should use the intake gasket that came stock with it. The one without the exaust manifold gasket.

and if you have time do the "Chem Dip". do this over night or for several hours. that will get rid of all of the stuff that ain't supposed to be on the carb. most carbs will come out looking almost brand new......at least mine did.
