I have just replaced my intake (Offenhauser Dual Port intake) and carb (holly 390cfm) on my 300 inline 6. Truck runs great but stalls once in a while. What I have noticed, after idling for 10 min or so..ie...at a fast food drive thru or waiting in line for gas I will pull away and start to gain speed then the engine will begin to stall, like its not getting gas. I will have to pull over because it will not continue to run, let it set about 45 sec or so, start it and take off and not have a problem after that. No problem while moving or at stop lights it only seems to do this after its idled for over 10 or so as I descibed above. I have replace the fuel filter and I did not have this problem with the prior intake and carb that was replaced. Any Ideas? I have no clue.
Have you re-routed any fuel lines that may be too near the exhaust? If you have a clear fuel filter, you can test this theory by getting it hot, and then letting it idle in the driveway and watch the fuel in the filter. If it's vapor locking you will see more and more bubbles in the filter till finally you won't see any fuel, and about a minute later it will shut off after it uses all the fuel in the carb.
If it's not a fuel problem, I would change out the ignition module and see what happens.
The fuel lines have not been re-routed and are not close to the exhaust. Actually the fuel runs through a cooler that is mounted infront of the radiator. I do not have a clear fuel filter but that can be changed to test your theory. I'll try that this weekend. Thanks for your advice, it is greatly appreciated. If there are any other ideas I would like to hear them.
