Thumbs up 77 f150 400 6.6 fuel delivery pump issues

Hi everybody and greetings from Colorful Colorado. I bought a 77 Ford F150 4wd truck about 6 months ago that had been sitting for years and had her running badly. One day after putting a Ford 2 barrel carb from a 76 Ford 390 F 150 on the truck the Truck started and the idle took off to 2500 RPM. I had a vacumm guage and tach on it so I shut it off and was horrified to see the manifold around the motorcraft carb with pools of gas. I pulled off the 390 carb rebuilt the old one. replaced the EGR spacer plate which had about 6 burned throgh holes, and put on new gaskets from manifold on up and replaced all the fuel lines steel and rubber from carb to new under drivers side frame rail filter. Result no fuel from driver side frame rail filter to fuel pump. I blew out lines from fuel pmp backwards and a torrent of fuel came towards me hooked it back up, no fuel from pump to carb?

anybody experienced anything similar?

pull out your dipstick and try to light it on fire. if the pump diaphragm is bad, it'll dump fuel into the crank case.

welcome to FTE, btw!

I was given a Airtex 60007 fuel pump from Advanced auto I put it in and through a compression guage on the black rubber line that go's to the fuel filter on the 2 barrel when I cranked it it went up to 5 and then right down. do you suppose that indicates only one side of the pump is working and not the side that draws fuel from the back tank?

there shouldn't be two lines going to the fuel pump. there should be one mechanical pump on the block and a fuel selector solenoid on the frame rail. take the line going to the pump off a few feet back and stick that little piece of line going to the pump into a gas can and see if it will pick up fuel from the gas can. if it won't, the pump is shot. if it will, your selector valve may need some attention (or deletion).
