I've noticed lately after I fill up, for quite awhile I get fuel leaking out of the top of the tank. Not a lot, but enough to make me wonder. It's coming right around the tanktop under the ring. Maybe its not tight enough? Also, would this allow air in the tank, into the fuel? Any ideas? Thanks!!
On my 38 gal tank, there is a equalizing vent that goes from the rear of the tank to the front. If that hose has cracked or come off one of the ends you could get some splash that would show up on the top.
The filler hose and associated vent could also be loose as they are only secured with a single worm clamp but I would think that a leak there would run down the side of the tank. The only other place I could think would be the main opening ring has come loose as Pocket mentioned.
I would think that if the feed or return hoses were leaking, it would do it all of the time, just not when filled.
