CCV Mod

A few questions on this...

Do you have to use a 4" piece of stainless steel for this mod or can you use a 4" piece of PVC pipe?

How do you attach the 4" piece of pipe to the existing bracket or can you just let it hang there without attaching it? Can you just use zip ties?

Thanks, Mike.

Mike, you are mixed up on 2 mods.

The CCV mod involves removing the crankcase vent hose from the intake and routing it down the wheel well or out the back of the truck. This would entail plugging the hole where it formerly went into the intake. I removed the intake, sawed off the tit inside and plugged the hole.

The 4" SS exhaust pipe is used to connect the 6637 air filter, otherwise known as the kwik filter.

A search on here will reveal lots of photos and details for each mod.

I was reading guzzles CCV mod writeup and he shows to use a 4" SS exhaust pipe for the CCV mod. Welcome to guzzle's CCV mod web page Is this incorrect?

He is talking about for replacing the section where the CCV goes into the intake hose.

Edit: I don't think I would do to heat from the heads.

So, I don't need that part. What about when I do the Kwik Filter mod, will I need to do that then?

You will need the piece for the CCV mod and I would use steel and yes you will need another piece for the 6637 mod but you could use pvc there as it will not be close to anything real hot.

Edit: both need to be 4" OD.

Using the 4" SS pipe or plastic make the CCV mod eliminates the need to plug the existing factory plastic 4" tube at the vent outlet.. and eliminates the internal restriction.. I would use it.. go for it..

I just used a rubber cap (3/4" IIRC) with a hose clamp.

I used a piece of SS exh. If you have anything other than a CC LB, you'll have enough exhaust pipe (assuming you got a 4" system!) for the CCV & 6637. PVC is VERY narrow inside, and I didn't like the stock CCV coupler with that scoop thing in there. I guess you could cut it off, but still, it's much more free-flowing with it all opened up. Here's what my coupler looks like:

Is this kit worth the price:

Crankcase Vent Kit

It just seems that by the time I round up all the parts to do it myself (including fuel to drive to store) I will spend this much or more.

What does it cost to do this mod by yourself?

All you need is a couple hose clamps, a hose coupler, a piece of 3/4 hose long enough to get you where you want it to vent, and a piece of 4" OD exh pipe. You can get it all at one place (I did), except for the piece of exh. You can use the stock adapter by capping the hose nipple (also available at the parts store) & saw off the scoop thing inside & wait until you do your exhaust to replace it. I would also suggest you get a couple O-rings that go under the dog-house you have to remove & rotate 180 deg. I had to replace mine when I did the CCV mod -- they were severely deformed. IIRC, they are 1 1/4" ID, 1 1/2" OD, 1/8" thick O-rings. I got some at AutoZone, so you should be able to get all but the CCV coupler piece at one store...

PVC or ABS pipe will work fine, but you want a 3" coupler which is 4" OD. Exhaust tubing is the better choice though- much thinner wall. A good diesel or tractor shop should have some 4" tubing that you can pick up cheap or free.

I just orderd my MBRP exhaust system, so I'll use some of the extra from that.

OK, so once I have the 4" SS exh, how do I attach it to the existing mount. I noticed in guzzle's write up that he fabbed up some kind of mount. Is this necessary or can it just hang there?
