ok I rebuilt the transmission in my truck a while back. Its an older style c-6 which has the extra check ball in the valve body that the newer ones don't. It had problems before but it still does. It has always had a slow engagement into either foward or reverse. reverse is very hash going in. It takes about 2 secounds for the trans to engage. when driving it it shifts firm and good when its cold but when it gets warmed up it shifts very soft and it likes to shudder in 3rd like its kicking up and down between 3rd and 2nd. I did a lot of work to my motor recently and now the 302 is hot enough to make it slip a lot in secound when before it wouldn't. I am thinking it is the pump cause the line pressure is not very steedy although i can't remember if it was low or not. The c-6 i thought was suppose to be a good trany but this one is making me want to put a np435 with a 205 transfer in the truck cause i know a guy that has both....I have a 2 wheel drive c-6 with nothing wrong that i have considered tearing apart and swaping tail shafts but i don't want to do that in case i go to a divorce mount transfer cause....Grrrr!!! what to do what to do....
Yup it sounds like an oil preasure problem, thats exactly the symptoms a tranny hjas when its a little low on oil, you sure it has the exact amoint of oil needed? a pump going bad could also cause this....
Yeah i had one guy tell me it was the kick down rod not being hooked up but if that was the case then y does it only slip in secound??? i am hooking the rod up tonight. my holley carb i put on it didn't have all the parts for a ford kick down. I will say that for a 302 its extremly snapy... Should I dump an extra quart in it and see if it helps??
I haven't yet hooked the rod up. It only slips when the trainy gets warmed up. most of the time it only runs for about half an hour and not very far so i am just going to run it till it blows i guess then build a different one with the lower first gear kit, or put a stick in it. All i do is put it on the floor for about 100 ft then i am done!
