well here's the story. i rebuilt me e40d new clutches put in a shift kit the modified the pump and new springs in the accumulator body... installed a reman trans star triple disk torque.. took it for a test drive and it shifted good. I only went for a 10 mile round trip and about half way it started slipping i limped it back home and found that while it was down one of my cooler line dry rotted and caused it to leak. i thought this would be an easy fix and replaced both cooler lines and filled the trans. took it fo a test drive again and it now slips in all foward gears but not nearly as bad in 1st if manually shifted there. and reverse there is no slippage at all. i drained all the fluid out and there is some metal( brass and steel or aluminum) and a small amount of clutch material. i hooked a gauge to the trans before draining the oil i only have a 140 psi gauge and i don't know what the pressure should be but i was comparing to reverse because it actually still working. i had 120 to140 in reverse 80 in netural 80 in 2nd 3rd and od 120 in 1st. i un plugged the tack and all gears pegged my gauge. i took it for another test drive with the tack unplugged and and its still slipping.....
so here's my thought.... metal has gone through the solenoid pack and plugged them up and causing these problems the metal is not a whole lot even though its not good to have metal at all i wouldn't think it is completely trashed any thoughts?????
can the solenoid pace be cleaned or do i need to replace it???
Reverse uses a higher line pressure to operate, your pressures don't seem like that's the problem to me, I would have to look it up to tell you the correct pressure reading is but those seem fine.
I bet your problem is not a line pressure problem but when you ran it low on fluid you caused the forward clutches to slip and on they are damaged and cant hold. I am afraid that you are going to have to to pull this thing back out and go back into it all the way to the forward drum, you might as well go ahead and take it completely apart and check everything while you are there before putting it back in.
Sure sounds like the forward clutch pack is gone. Your pressures are a bit high (compare to stock) but with your new spring kit and pump mods they might be in line.
