what to do... how does it work??

ok, so i'm tryin to get pics up here but its not workin. putting the pictures in my gallery. well, my problem is that when i was changin my brake lines, the brass block on the rear axle came off. so the threaded piece that goes from in the block to in the axle busted off. i got the broken piece out of the axle but when i hold the block up, it lookes as if there is no threads in it and that the busted piece goes all the way through this block and is part of the fittin thing that attaches to the breather tube.. is this correct? any help is appriciated

gallery pictures of it

oh, would u recomend to fix it or to replace.... i suppose that they are obsolete now and that one would probably be a job for number dummy though

You're right. It's a nipple that passes through the junction block and threads into the axle housing to attach the block and and vent hose. I would try the wrecking yard because I belive its just 1/8" pipe thread and you could probably find something on a later truck if you bring the broken pieces to match up.

Couldnt you make something from a 1.5" 1/8 pipe thread and a couple fittings. I know its just a vent, but it also anchors the brake line "tee". You could just put a 1/8" nipple in the axle and find another way to attach the brake tee/block to the axle.I suggest this since the one off of the Junkyard diff may not be in better condition than the one that broke. It you create one new, it would have less a chance of breaking. Oh, btw I just found one off of a 9" the other day in one of drawers in the garage, I wonder if that would work...

I thought of that too, maybe a nipple, a coupling to hold the tee down and another nipple to clamp the vent line to. However its such a common setup you should be able to find something relatively new that will work. My '75 Higyboy, '68 Cougar, and '02 Superduty are all similiar if not identical.

well, the interesting thing about it is that its not pipe thread, it looks like normal bolt threads. that is kinda why its weird also

Have you tried a parts house yet? Like I said, it's such a common setup that it might not be hard to find something that matches even if they don't have a listing for your truck.

I would start with that. Bring your broken pieces to match up and try to avoid the big chain stores with geeks that wrap their head around anything thats not obvious in the computer. A mom 'n pop would be more helpful.

there should be something newer that works. i would even say any junction within suppliers will be the same. i'd crawl under a later truck (like 80s) and see if its the same.

The Brass Block is a part of the Rear Brake Hose

If you need a new block you have to replace the hose. The Hose is the Same For 1973-1977 F-250 HighBoys. Avaliable almost anywhere.

As for the fitting that goes into the axle, through the block, to the axle vent nipple. You can go to a hardware store and make one very easily.
