I'm 20 years old, this is my first engine build, and I've run into a bit of a snag. I'm currently building a 460 (D1VE block, not 100% on the year but i could find out) and I have a set of D0VE-C heads to put on it. I want the compression around 10.5:1 to safely run 91 pump gas though it, but I can't find a single place that sells 1970 pistons. I've heard on some other posts that the deck clearance was increased by .020 between 70' and 71' and I'm looking for some help on my piston selection. Also would anyone know what lenght rods I would have to use for this setup.
Just for some backround info. This is going in my 78' bronco that I bought a year ago with a 400 in it. I'm planning on putting a 850 Holley, performance intake, custom comp cam, rear sump oil pan/pump for safe axle clearance MSD ingnition and coil, 7/16" roller rockers (I think I need 7/16"), plus I'm lining the whole truck in bedliner for prevent scratches from those annoying trees.
Hyperutetic piston and zero deck the block and maybe mill the head to make sure it true. The piston is a dish design. Seal power sells a coated piston skirts to help on skuffing also that work nice for good reliability. Stock rods and arp bolts on everything and you will be in good shape. Do a little port work and this will be a good 4wd motor. I personnaly run a 460 similar to this with about 10.2 comp. custom solid grind from MPG Heads Heads cnc ported. I'm probably gonna bed liner my truck also. tired of scratching my paint also. I run a 830cfm carb quick fuel annular booster and love it, 1 to 1 linkage.
So your running the same setup then? The main thing that I was worried about was getting insane compression so I couldn't run pump gas. Do you happen to know how many cc the pistons are dished by chance?

The seal power are about 22 cc and hyperutectic are about the same maybe a little less. Been acouple of yrs since build. Good running motor and reliable off road and highway. Mine gets a lot of highway time. My cam cut by mpg and porting is the trick to this build and nice c-6. 830 quick fuel is awesome and a few tricks for off road. gonna fuel inject soon because of my elevation changes are huge. 4000' to 10000' elev are common in a day. If you have anymore questions drop me a note I have a 429 and a 521 but the 460 gets a little fuel mileage and pulls the mountains well and doesn't break to much of drivetrain componets much. 60 frt and 70 rear. In wyoming you have to drive it on highway to get anywhere.
