Ok I recently bought a 2002 f-250 and it came with a Tekonsha voyager brake control. I tried hooking it up to my boat and I get nothing. I hook the boat up to my dad's truck and the brakes work fine so....
Does anybody know anything about this controller? how can I test it? I looked at the wiring instructions and it is wired properly and all wired sem to have power. however I do not get a green light on the box when I hook up the trailer, nor do I get a red one when I manually apply the brake slider.
All the lights work, just not the brakes.
is there any test I can do on the plug to check for wiring problems or a way to check if the box is bad?
If there is power to the Voyager and it is still not functioning, my first reaction is the unit is NFG. For the cost of a new one it is not worth fixing. If looking new, skip the Voyager and go to either the Prodigy or P3, much better units and technology for only a few more bucks.
You can put A test light (the kind with A real bulb) on the brake wire at the plug & this should cause the green light to come on, slide manual lever it should go to red & the test light will get brighter. are you sure your boat trailer doesnt have surge brakes? most do, if so the controller wont do anything.
[quote=DrFord;6977131]Cool I will try that with the bulb. I assume you put one lead on the brake pin and ground the other? quote]
Yeah do that , make sure to get a good ground on the vehicle, & if it doesnt light up, I would go to the brake wire coming out of the voyager & try it there as well to see if its in the wire going back.
