Tekonsha Commander Brake controller

Help! I changed a Tekonsha Commander brake controller from a 1993 F150 to a 2003 F150 which I just purchased. The 2003 came with the brake controller adapter, which I used as well as 2 relay switches which I installed on the distribution box under the hood. Everything worked find on the 1993 F150 but not so with the 2003. When I hook the truck to my 20' equipment trailer, all lights, signals work. If I press the pad on the brake controller, the electric brakes on the trailer activate. However, when I press the truck brakes, the trailer brakes will not work. I can press the brake controller pad and activate the trailer brakes and continue to hold but when the truck brakes are pressed, you can feel the trailer brakes release. What am I missing?? No one at the dealership seems to be able to help. I have checked wiring several times and all seems okay. So does anyone have an idea why truck and trailer brakes will work separately but not together.
thanks,
