I have come across a package deal of a new Diablo tuner and Pace Setter headers, and I am wondering what the differences between the Diablo and Edge are?
I cant speak for the Edge but i got a great deal on a Diablo and it really woke up my little 4.6. You can make lots of changes aside from the built in programs if your brave enough.
I'm not very familiar with the Diablo and after searching a couple different forums I'm not finding much info about it.It doesn't seem to be real popular on 04-07 F150s.But that doesn't mean it's not good.
I like the performance gains with the Edge and I like looking at the gauges.Fortunately I got my Edge before they jacked the price up to about
$450.I love my Edge but if I was in the market for a tuner the new price would make me consider getting a custom tune for less $$.
IMO, Installing headers sounds like a lot of work for 10hp.I think the Edge will give you 35hp.But then again paying $450 for a tuner sucks.
But if you can't install those headers yourself it's gonna cost quite a bit $$ to pay someone else to do it.
I've only got the 4.6 and ive noticed quite a difference in getup and go. The shifts are 100% better. I would assume with the 5.4 you would get even more power. You can use it to log data while driving. You dont get the live monitoring with the Diablo that the Edge has though (temp, etc).
There are things to consider when installing headers in the 2004-2007. Space is very, very tight for the install (they fit just fine once in) and often requires lifting the engine enough to get them in. Be sure the headers you get aren't prone to leakage problems later on, research them. You don't want to have to re-do an already difficult task!
I'm looking at headers myself right now. With all the effort involved I'm leaning towards long-tubes for more power. Make sure you get ceramic coated headers. If you don't you'll end up putting a lot of extra heat under the hood which will negate any power gains.
Long tube ceramics would be ideal for any truck setup. Unfortunately many wont go the expense of custom fabricating a new Y pipe to mate the long tubes. I went halfway on my old bronco, and got ceramic coated, equal length, Bassani headers. They were still in the 'shorty' design, but the pipes were convoluted around each other to stay compact. Frankly I am not even sure who makes headers for our trucks these days.
I also have heard that that the Edge tuner is close to becoming obsolete, alot of parts suppliers are not carrying them anymore.
they are not supplying them anymore because edge has cut back on their list of "authorized distributors". that is also why the price went up. they are charging more money for them through the authorized guys, and only honoring the warranties from those sellers. any others will not be honored. they think that will make people pay more money for them. luckily i got mine before the price hike, and i havent had any issues with it.
IMO these seem to be the best for each motor. Im getting the superchips when I get gears or when my warranty comes closer to ending, whichever comes first.
