muffler or cat?

i plan on getting rid of either the cat or the muffler probly in about a week...which one would be better to lose?

i dont care about the sound cause either way i go if i keep one it shouldnt get much louder right and either one will increase power/torque... im wondering which one bill better my mpgs the most im leaning towards muffler it will be easier and more legal...then again my truck already passed inspection

If I were you, I would lose the muffler. The cat is illegal to remove in the US, not sure about Canada however. However if it was me, I would just get a performance muffler instead. If you get rid of one, it is hard to say how loud it will get. In my opinion, it would be louder than I would like. It would sound great, but it would also drive me nuts. And while I do not condone driving while on a cell phone, I often have to take calls while driving, and that means any overly loud exhaust will interfere with my ability to use it. I also like to talk to my passengers in a normal tone of voice.

I suppose it really doesn't cost anything to replace the muffler with a straight piece of pipe, and if you like it, great otherwise, you can add a muffler or glasspack later.

I removed the muffler on my 92 bronco, left the cat and found the tone to be deep and not obtrusive into the cabin area but it sounded good outside. As for removing the cat I wouldnt as its been shown to have minimal gains in hp or milage. But replacing the mufler with pipe is a cheap way to tuffin up your exhast sound.

Remove both and get an electric cutout system. I got a dual flowmaster set up, and if I want more people to look at me I can take 6 bolts out( Off my cutouts ) and it sounds like a muscle car. Its alot better to get the electric set up though.

I know, I wish I had put a leaker on mine. Good gosh my truck sounds like a posessed Cummins on the loose after your first born with an open manifold.
