Ok, I want to do the works. My manifolds leak on my 5.4L so I need them anyway. Im going with Magnaflow muffler(s) and cat(s).
I am wondering if I should see about goin true duals, or 1 to 2. Im thinkin 1 to 2 cause then i only need one muffler and cat. What is to be gained with true duals?
Also, I dont know what kind of headers I want. Probably Gibson. Are Pace Setter good? Should I get long tube or shorties?
This will be for a 2001 F-250.
What should I expect to pay to have this stuff done? Basically, I want headers, muffler(s), cat(s), tips, and custom piping. I might buy the stuff myself and see if my shop will put it on for me (Ill call them first). Im thinkin 500 for headers, 120 or so for the cat, idk what for the muffler or tips. I can get them there though cause he has them in stock. I was thinkin $1000-$1200. ???
You will have to use at least two cats on a 5.4L if you have a half ton, one for each exhaust bank. If you have a 3/4" ton or bigger, then you will need just one, but make absolutely certain that it is rated to at least 10,000 lbs, otherwise it is worth the money you spent on it. If you selected the Magnaflows based upon the name, just realize that they are on par with everyone else in terms or airflow. All 400 cpi catalysts will flow the same for any given size. Magnaflow cats are nothing more than a private label on an otherwise ordinary converter.
Take it from someone who had a bad experience. I had someone old school put TRUE duals on my 1998 f150 5.4 once. It didnt like it. He cut everything off and put on cheepe mufflers. Needless to say it didnt like the fact it didnt have cats. Some vehicles just need them, not to mention i lost alot of low end torque. The guy skiped town before i could kick his butt for all the other stuff he ruined. I think you could run true duals just leave the cats on and put an x or h pipe to connedt them inbetween, but leave the cats on. Your not gaining any huge amount of power its gonna cost you on your lack of torque.
