Continuous wheel balancers-anyone else run with these? I've put them on a 79 4x4 2 years ago with really great results. 35" radials with 16K and not showing much wear at all. Haven't had the bias on long enough to draw any conclusions other than they really smoothed it out when goin' down the road. Must have some clearence behind the wheel and in front of the rotor/drum to work correctly and they do fit Eagle 589's 15x10's. Just curious if anyone else has had any experience with these. Chuck P.
Are they expensive? I remember reading an article in one of the fourby mags, but I can't remember if it mentioned price at all. Gets tough balancing these bigger tires, and I don't want my mudders to wear too quickly.
Hey guys,
For Centramatic Perma-balancers, check out http://www.centamatic.com, this is the site that I used to pick-up mine. Cost was $99 plus $5 for shipping(4 of them), this is for the 5 on 5 1/2. As long as you don't mind some noise from shot rollin' round till you get movin', these are great. Now that I've had them on with the bias for awhile, I'm really impressed, run M/T Baja's in the 35" size and will get more miles from these than ever thought possible! You have to have some room between the center and the inside of the actual rim(were the spokes or "holes" are) in order to run these. Also they will add about 2 lbs. of unsprung weight to each corner(like I really notice with 35's!). Can be moved from vehical to vehical-not mounted as such, just slip over the studs between the hub/drum and the wheel. Now if they only made them for my little truck, I'd have a second set! Chuck P.
PS-Haven't had any tires balanced since I put these on, except when I first got them, started with as good of balance as we could get, and do rotate every oil change-3000 miles(tires, not the balancers!).
Might be the clearence thing if you have stock wheels? Mine barely fit behind Eagle 589's, the rear is real close and the front is just a little better(slight ridge on outside of drum) but still could not put a finger between the wheel and balancer. If I remember right, you need just over 2" between the drum and wheel about halfway between the drum and actual rim(flaired out). Mine are 15"x10" rims with 4" of backspacing. Doesn't seem duals would have the space outboard either? Unless it would go between the two rims? But, my thinking on this may be off the mark!
