I have a '92 F250 ext cab 4x4 with a 7.5L and was wondering if anyone had any advice on removing the catalytic convertor. It has the 2 inlet pipes coming from the manifolds and a single outlet to the muffler. The cat also has 2 approximatley 1" pipes going up to the front of the engine, and I'm not sure what those are for. Can I remove these? What I am hoping to do is cut the cat off and splice in two 2.5" exhaust pipes with flowmasters and have them exit just before the rear wheels. I don't have any emissions restrictions where I'm at so that's not a problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
Great, thanks for the info.
Did the cat you took off of your truck have the 2 small pipes going back up to the front of the engine? If so did you just remove them?
Mine only had one, it was coming from the smog pump. I removed it also. I had already removed my thermactor, so the pump wasn't doing anything at that point.
I would suggest to just either disconnect the tube at the exhaust and leave it open to the air or cut a hole in the new exhaust and weld it in there. That tube runs to the smog pump and pushes air into the cat. So if it is left open to the atmosphere it will just push the smog back into the air....
