I have a 99 F-150, and the wipers will wipe once across the windshield while driving, even though the switch is off. Any one else having similar problems?
my wipers sometimes dont even come on. I have to disconnect battery and wait like fives minutes. It started when i got an alarm installed with remote start, took it back to the shop and they said nothing was wrong, i took it to ford and they said that they "fix" it. Help has ne one had this problem.
I too have had wiper problems. Unfortunately the problem was in the GEMs module and it manifested and caused the truck to lock itself in 4WD Low. Replaced the GEMs module and both problems were solved.
I'm so frustrated with the wiper problem that I just sent a NEARLY ALL CAPS email to Ford Customer Service (<a href="http://www.ownerconnection.com">http://www.ownerconnection.com</a>)
and told them I want the Expedition taken back under the lemon law. The wipers started one swipe occasionally by themselves. After a new multifunction switch, the wipers and washers come on full speed 3 out of 4 times starting the vehicle. The only good thing about this is when I picked it up from service and had the service writer standing beside me, he got soaked by the washers before I could stop them!!!! The only way to shut off the wipers and washers is by turning off the engine... a real exciting time on the freeway surrounded by today's idiot drivers!!! The new, redesigned GEMS module is still not available, as of 8/30/99. Ford says wipers are not a safety issue. Maybe "THIS SUCKS" plastered on my windshield as the wipers run on high on a clear day would be a safety hazard and get us a recall and a fix?
But, this is my 2nd Expedition, my 6th Ford, and my Dad's construction company is Ford all the way (50 or 60 in the last 50 years) so let's see if Ford really values it's customers.
sign me "wet 'n wild wipers"

Guess what, Chrysler and GM have the same problem? Looks like the Big Three have an embedded chip supplier who used low grade chips in their onboard computer system. After three switch replacements,on my wifes 97 caravan I demanded that they replace the computer module even though they insisted it was not the problem. As you canb guess no more wiper problem!
My 99 f150 4x4 lariat does not have this problem yet, rest assured if it does you know what the dealer is going to hear from me!
I have a 99 F-150 as well but it has speed sensitive wipers. Very strange procedure used to activate, but it is in the owners manual. Key on, key off within five seconds press and hold the wiper stem until you here a chime. I can,t remember off the top off my head, but I think two chimes is on one chime is off. You might see if you have this feature and turn it off.
I have a 97 F150 and i noticed sometimes when its turned off or on to clean the windows it stays on .. on its own.. this is a MAJOR @#$ing pisser indeed well if you kinda play with the swtich it will stop on its own.. its a bitch
