I have a '79 F150 4x4 4-speed mule that has truly been "Ford tough"! Old Blue has plowed, hauled, towed, run in 20-below temps, you name it. It has never had the luxury of a garage, and is now in need of repair. I'm looking for front suspension information. I have what has been described to me as the "quad heavy duty" package. There are 4 shocks on the front end. I have not been able to find any information on this. If you are out there and know more about this, I would like to hear from you ! I also need to have a clutch put in. My wife keeps on telling me to get rid of that bucket of rust, but Old Blue just keeps on going.
Thanks !
The quad shock front end set-up is more common in the Bronco, full size. Only difference I know of between the "standard" and yours is that they have added an extra shock up front(heavier coils?). From the sound of the way you use yours, this would be a good thing. The dual shock set-up allows the shocks to split the work between them, generating less heat in each makin' them last longer and much less prone to fade. From everything I've read about dual set-up, all were surprised that the ride wasn't any tighter with two as opposed to just one. Common misconception? If your considering replacing, do replace all 4 up front, you can get away with just two, but why? Now, not sure what your lookin' for in way of "repairs" to the front end. Post what you have or want/need to do and we'll take it from there! Can't really help with the clutch, C-6 in mine! Been over my front end several times and now have it in good enough shape to run without the stabilizer with the radials, the bias are a different story through! Chuck P.
