I have been shopping for tires in the 32-33 range and what is everyones opnion on the generals. I know that the bfg's are. the generals are a lot cheaper.
If memory serves the the generals have 2-ply sidewalls (which is standard & most commonly found) whereas I know the BFG has 3-ply. Obviously, 3-ply holds up much better on the trails. I run 35" BFG mud terrains and they have never let me down. I may be mis-remembering about the ply on the generals, but my opinion is save up a bit more and get the BFGs.
Proeliator, what kind of engine and axle ratio do you have for those 35's? What kind of lift do you have? And how do they hold up on the highway? Thanks.
Well since you asked, Daywalker <grin>, I've got a built 390 (407 ponies so sez the dyno) with 4.10 gears which works well with that engine and tire size. My next tires are going to be 38s but I will have to get steeper gears for those. I've got a '72 Hi-Boy with custom leaf spring packs that gives me a further 2" lift over the factory lift. As far as wear goes, my buddy has 48000 on his BFG mud terrains and they still have plenty of good tread. To be honest I'm surprised they hold up that well but apparently they do as long as you watch tire pressure and rotate them religiously like he does.
