Whats the point in lifting it a couple inches if you KNOW you're going to go higher later. save the money and lift it the 6" first. sure 2-3'' to 6'' is a big difference but 0 to 6'' will having you saying "that's a big truck from what I was just at a few hours ago".
If you lift your 2wd, becareful because your trucks rear end will always come out 1 or 2 inchs shorter then ur front end. Me and Toredor both encountered this problem. I fixed my problem buy buying blocks. But you have to becarefull bout buying blocks because even thought some of them look the same, they arent for the vehicle. THe blocks that i bought were for a bronco, but LOOKED like blocks for a excursion lol. So my rear end came loose every other week! So i fixed that buy getting rid of the block and getting all my lift from leaf springs and the 1 inch block that came with the fabtech lift. BTW the fabtech lift came with 4 inch lift coils for the front and a 1 inch block for the rear. That doesnt make sense at all but thats why i am warning you about it. The leafs that i bought provided 4 inchs of lift and the block provided 1 inch of lift. So all in all, i had 5 inchs of lift in the rear and 4 inchs of lift in the front. Compared to the fabtech kit that provided me with 4 inchs of lift in the front and 1 or 2 inchs in the rear. My truck looked like i was towing a trailer with a 2000 pound tounge weight! If you have any questions, PM me
Exactly, the Procomp lift I used actually kept the rear perfectly level and I ended up not needing blocks period. If you look at my thread about the whole experience, I had 3.5 inch blocks in the rear thinking it was going to sag. Monsta commented that the back end of my truck was higher than balck woman's booty, lol
I went to DI Performance a local diesel performance shop, they removed the blocks and the X sat perfectly level. A year and a half later, everything finally settled in and the X now sits at factory rake. i.e. the rear is slightly higher than the front the way Ford intended.
Adam aka igotoneforya used the 6 inch Fabtech kit, but I'm not sure if his lift is all leaf like me or if he had to use blocks like i eat hybrids
How does it ride with the Pro-Comp leaf springs? I like the fabtech because it comes with new front arms but you really don't need them. Blocks are nice because they keep the factory ride and tow rating. I like the fact that the Pro-Comp comes with leafs, as long as they ride nice.
What springs did you use for the rear? I plan on installing an air bag helper setup in the rear as well so that will help with a minor rear end sag with no problems.
I used a pair of leaf springs from skyjacker. But if you get a 6 inch lift, youll need to lift the rear 7 inchs to be at factory rake (1 inch taller in the rear). Its like that because when you tow with a heavy tounge weight, ur truck will be more level instead of sagging. If you want the link, let me know. These leaf springs also increase ur weight capicity.
Toredor, i went basically all leaf. I have a 1 inch block, but as you can see a 1 inch block is very small. Especially compared to a 3.5 inch block. U guys can tell i hate axle warp! hahaha The only reason why i used a 1 inch block, is because the 4 inch leaf would make the rear end perfectly level with the front. I wanted it to be back at factory rake, so i used the 1 inch block. And it was also sitting around from the lift kit itself. So it beat spending an extra hundred or so dollars on a 5 inch leaf spring lol.

They ride real nice! I get complements all the time when people ride with me. If I'm on a roadtrip with a truckful of people they all fall asleep within an hour or so and don't complain about a bumpy ride. If you get the adjustable MX6 shocks, it makes all the difference.
I also went the Procomp route with the MX6 adjustable. I have been very happy. The ride is firm, but not riduculous. I usually leave the rear shocks on setting 1 (softest) and the front on 5 to get similar bounce empty. When towing I adjust the rear only depending on what I am towing.
My lift in the rear is the same lift spring they put on the F350 SRW plus a 1" block. I ride slightly higher in the rear.
I also had very specific tire requirements, in that I wanted them inside the fender wells and they had to be load range E.
I later went with a 4:10 rear because the truck was constantly shifting at highway speed when towing with the cruise on.

So far it looks like the Pro-Comp is the best deal since it has the rear leafs! Add the air bags and gears and I should be set! Now all I have to do is come up with the $$$$$$$$$$$
Hey guys, long time. Vacations...merry merry and happy happy!!
I have the 6" Fabtec Basic lift with 6" blocks in the rear. The kit came with 4" blocks but front sat one inch higher than rear. I warned the shop about this and they fixed it for very little....going from 4" block to the 6".
I would never do a small lift knowing that I wanted more. I think you decided to wait which I think is smart. No sense in wasting time/money, though you could do the spring spacer and small lift block and then add the 6" kit giving you an 8" lift. I am back to that point. I would love 2 more inches. At this point, I would rather do flares without more lift as my truck rides so well and I would hate to screw that up. I also was warned many times against the front spacers as they screw up geometry. The shop that installed my lift refuses to install front spring spacers. (well, except for 1" wrangler spacers only) I have thus far heeded their advice and stayed away from the spacers. For the rear, I had planned to decrease the block and increase leafs. Just need to find a place to fabricate an 8" front coil spring
I just got back from a 3000 mile vacation and it was perfect....'cept for mileage. That northern gas sucks! Southern gas netted me over 14mpg while the northern gas was around 11. BUT-I had more wind in the north while never slowing down! (and much more idling/warming up time)
