Removing/replacing fuel filter 05'

I know where the filter is, i know how to bleed off the pressure. Im wondering if those clips are easy to slide off to remove the filter from the lines? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thumbs up Fuel Filter

You need to buy the fuel filter tool-Ford says you don't need it, but it sure makes it a lot easier to get the filter off..the tool looks like a 3/4 circle(cut out to fit over fuel line) with a taper edge on one side to push into the quick connect fittings...most auto parts stores carry them-the even have sets you can buy with 5-6 tools on a rail, especially when you don't know the size...the clips pull out fairly easy.

I haven't looked at the Ranger but I'm assuming it uses the same clips as all Ford's do. I use a small flathead screwdriver and carefully pry the clips out, easier than it looks. The new filter should come with clips if you break one, I've only broke one out of 6 vehicles. Unless you have the other setup and that will require that tool.

On my 03 I also use a small screwdriver. Push in on the front side of the horseshoe clip while pushing fitting toward filter and then pull away from filter to release it. Have a rag handy and stay an arms reach away to keep from getting drenched. Even with pressure released there is a fair ammount of fuel left in filter/lines.

well on an 04 you dont need anything, you just push the clips in with your thumb and pull the line off. it took mee an hour to find out i didnt need the tool, watch out for remaining fuel .

You can carefully press on yellow clips with screw driver to unlock hose fitting too.

Lightbulb Thank Ya! Thank ya! Thank ya!

Fingers are crossed, advice was good & appreciated. Should have just started with the fuel filter like my old man would have. He was fortunate to not have to deal with all these 'convenient' gizmos.
