I have a 5 speed, now I know if you have an auto and do a lot of engine work you will have to build your tranny. I was wondering if that applies to manuals. Can they withstand the hp or will I need more than just a southbend clutch?
Your gonna wanna upgrade your flywheel when you go with an aftermarklet clutch if y7ou haven't done so already. The factory dual mass flywheels are garbage!!!! Best of luck!
Dale at Tymar told me the E4OD is a "stronger" tranny than the ZF5. Meaning that as far as the ability to handle raw power, it has more guts. They are troublesome because of heat issues (I believe) which do not affect the ZF5.
I am clearly no expert on the matter, just passing on what he told me. I was kind of shocked when he said it due to all I have read here about E4OD issues. But he assured me that it was his opinion.
auto trannys in general are more complicated with more moving parts they are also more seseptible to heat. ofcourse they can be built to be stronger but imo autos are weaker because of the afore mentioned issues
heat is an auto's worst enemy, and if you are like me and have a bad tendency to get yourself in sticky situations then you go with what will take a beating and the zf5 will take one heck of a beating
A well built E40D/4r100 tranny will out perform and outlive a Zf5 tranny handling a 200% increase in horsepower and torque over stock. You'll make more efficent use of your new added horsepower increase with a well built auto versus a zf series tranny
Heat will destroy any tranny including a manual unit....
