Heat will destroy any tranny including a manual unit....

Explain how a clutch driven auto transmission can outlive gears.

I know they can build some badass automatics now, but bring out that info.

The most badass auto I can think of built well is a Powerglide. Tis what the monster truck people use, just built with better parts.

put as big of a tranny cooler or whatever you want on an E4OD or a 4R100 tranny and then put in the big sticks, chips, etc and i will gaurantee a ZF-5 or a ZF-6 holds up A LOT longer. autos having clutch packs tend to slip a lot easier than a manual tranny with a stronger clutch. a manual tranny IMO is a lot stronger and easier on your wallet to handle power and will also transfer more power to the ground.

An auto, however, will run a faster quarter time if you compare 2 trucks with the same power with an auto and a manual b/c although the manual puts more power to the ground the auto transfers less power for a longer period of time than a stick making it faster in our trucks.. I, personally, am a much bigger fan of manual transmissions b/c IMO they are more fun to drive, a lot cheaper, and are wayy more durable, but thats just me..

I put a new Napa solid flywheel clutch assy. in my 95 the other day. It works great but has a nasty groan to it! I can't figer it out it never had noise like that before. As soon as you release the clutch it quits! Any you evr run into that or heard about it?
It is a Precision sold by Napa button clutch.

Tatsch, I thought autos in a turbo diesel had the potential for faster times because there is no boost loss during shifts.

You build boost better with auto anyday of the week.
You can't tax a manual before launch.

Why couldn't a ZF5 or ZF6 hold up to 600 HP?
A stock E4od wont.
They will fold.

You simply cannot compare a built auto to a stock manual.
Apples to oranges man, you can't do that.

People also need to realize that you can always improve how fast a manual can shift: like a short shifter, upgraded hydraulics, Driving technique...
and it would seem that the ZF's are fine until 500+ hp with a clutch, then you gotta start worrying about inputs, outputs and bearings.

That is common with a SMF. I believe it is called gear roll. What happens with the DMF is that engine noises and vibrations are absorbed in the DMF. When you go to SMF there is less dampening effect. Therefore the vibrations and noises convey thru and into the tranny and it seems to intensify the noises. To reduce the noise I put 5 quarts of fluid in the tranny instead of the 3.4 it requires. It helps quite a bit but is still there a bit.

Me, none. LOL

But seriously the ZF5 is rated at 450 HP from the factory IIRC.

This is true although I haven't ever seem a modified ZF5. I wish I knew where you could find one.

If you compare stock to stock both will fail. You need a clutch with the manual and the auto needs things too.

This all relates to the term "Bullet Proof" ... There is no such thing because you can always find a bigger bullet. That is why it is bullet resistant.

Properly aimed, a .50 would just drill a new drain hole in the ZF. You'd have to go back in and tap threads for a new plug, of course. Be sure to put a drain catch pan under the tranny before loading; that synthetic ATF is expensive....
