new to this sight but need to know about changing hpop, is this pump timed to the engine? a ford mech. told me it had timing marks, a buddy said it wasn't timed. can you just unbolt it or do you have to positoin the engine for timing?
Wow duck!, has it been 2 years since you posted the HPOP install? Time flies!
Tried to rep ya again but....
sawz5, Welcome to FTE ...duck is right on, the HPOP is not timed...they are confusing it with the older IDI motors with an Injection pump that must be timed to the engine. Whole 'nuther animal. Use that great write up rubberduck posted for you. It's a keeper.
so far i've been told to replace fuel pump, cam sensor, hpop, and new computer box. i did this to the tune of about $900, still won't start. (i think i'm dealing with parts replacers) rubberduck i couldn't have got that hpop on without your help though, thanks. cuda_jim i took that check valve out cleaned and finally got it back in after a hissey fit. i took that plug out of the top of oil reserve and cranked the engine over didn't see any oil coming in, i'm wondering now if the low pressure oil pump has been the culprit all along. any thoughts? rick
fill the resevoir up first, then try to crank it over. if the resevoir empties out while cranking then odds are you have a low pressure pump issue. its by far not a common problem though.
anybody know where i can find a writeup on stacking pumps?
Its not really an easy DIY thing. I have a project that I have start (slow going) that while it not stacking two stock pumps it is a DIY big oil project. Detail will come once I get it done (gonna be a while though!)

Couple questions on your no start. Any smoke form the tail pipe? Does the tach move while cranking? Oil pressure gauge move? Wait to start light come on?
We can diagnose your issue as long as you can do the work and sounds like you can.
no smoke from tailpipe, tach moves but not much,no oil pressure on gauge, wait to start light comes on, glowplug relay clicks& volt meter shows about 9-10 volts so i think the glow plugs work. a friend says maybe the drive key for the oil pump sheared.
again, the low pressure pump isnt a common problem but it shouldnt be ruled out in your situation. try filling the resevoir up first and get it to start. if it drains the resevoir out right away then you will need to start getting into the low pump
There is no drive key on either the LPOP or HPOP so that is unlikely. Try checking for lube oil pressure. Make sure the sump is full on the dip stick. You will need to fill the HPOP reservoir and make sure you have oil pressure feeding it.
changed the oil just the other night after the fuel pump. not only is it full it si gaining some from the oil in the hpop reservor i guess. tried filling the res. still no go. i know it sounds like i'm making some of this up but i'm not.
Nope. Doesn't sound made up at all. Just keep posting. These guys are good. They'll get you going. Just keep posting what's happening. Oh yeah, Welcome to the group.
i'm wondering how much oil the hpop holds, does it need primed, should i crack a fitting at the high pressure gally to bleed the lines. i just filled the res. with oil and it seems to be staying in there so i guess the check valve is not leaking. can i just pour oil in the res. while cranking the engine over or will oil fly everywhere with the plug out?
